4 months postpartum, breastfeeding & spotting

ok last week was pretty stressful, my husband off to work for 4 days, and me w 4 kids.
anyway... milk supply went down. i just got it back up again and now its slightly low again cause babys not eating well. he keeps pulling off. so i pump. at night he nurses every 2 hrs.
he gets no suppliments, nuks or bottles.
yet today i'm spotting.

what Im hoping is that its NOT my period. I normally (w other 3 kids) get my period around 12-18 months postpartum. I nurse for 2 years.

so what I want to know is, if you have had spotting or even a period, is there any chance that you can skip all the others till you really wean or start supplimenting? I don't hear about this stuff much so please throw me your story... or info.

i'm tempted to either pump after each feeding or take progesterone to fool my body to stop spotting and make more milk.

not even close. no sex.

I did read this... " It is not unusual for your menstrual cycle to be irregular while you are still nursing. Some women even have their cycle stop temporarily if their baby begins to spend more time at the breast. "
but want to know if anyone actually had this happen.

It is possible to spot or get AF and then not get another AF for awhile!

Re: 4 months postpartum, breastfeeding & spotting

It is possible for you to get your period once, and then increase nursing enough the following month for it not come back for a while. I've noticed as I have more children running around to take care of during the day, I'm not as able to rest or grab a nap and that has a huge impact on when my cycles come back. I would try to get more rest, nurse more and hope the combination can help keep your cycles at bay longer.

Re: 4 months postpartum, breastfeeding & spotting

I'm sure this'll be no encouragement, but AF came back for me at 3 mos post-partum, and she's been visiting monthly ever since!

You could always try taking fenugreek to help with your supply...
