This should be required reading for everyone on the planet. I wish I'd had it when we lost our little one 8 months into our pregnancy last year.

I especially loved the line about "I didn't want her to be my angel - I wanted her to bury me in my old age"... so tremendously true.

Re: What we wish you knew about pregnancy loss

I have a 5 mo son, and my brother and his wife just lost theri baby after about 8 wks of pregnancy. It is a very hard thing to know what to say to them and/or not say. This little letter was very helpful, but I am not sure if I should share the letter with my sister-in-law or not. What do you think?

Thank you so much for posting this! It's unbelievable what some people will say after you lose a baby.

Re: What we wish you knew about pregnancy loss

I just had miscarriage last week and I was only 5.5 weeks along. The thing that every person has said to me was "Well, at least if it had to happen it happened now, at least it happened early." Like, ok yes it doesn't hurt as much because I only knew about the baby for 1 1/2 weeks...right. I loved MY BABY, my child! I loved my child the moment that I knew he/she was there. As soon as I saw that positive pregnancy test. For that one week, I pictured my baby, I relished in the fact that I got to be a mother again, I day dreamed about that baby. I took all my maternity clothes out of storage because I was so excited for the world to know that I had this miracle inside of me. It's gone...and the fact that I was only 5.5 weeks pregnant makes no difference, my heart is still broken.

My dad was the only person who said the right thing, he kept it simple. "I'm so sorry honey, I love you."

Re: What we wish you knew about pregnancy loss

I think we could all write our own after talking to other ladies who've m/ced, but this is a good description of the do's and don'ts. Thanks!
