wake the baby or let them sleep?

what do you do? we try to stay on a schedule (it's a little lax, because i can never seem to get things to happen right on time every day ) but it seems like every time dd oversleeps in the morning or at nap it throws off the rest of the day. but i hate waking her too

No schedules here. If we have somewhere to go, we tweak things just a bit to accomodate.

I'm not a strict schedule person, but I do find that my LO does better when his routine is predictable. So I voted let them sleep in a little... like an extra 30 minutes. I try to keep wake up and bed/nap times within a half hour of the "schedule" each day. A little flexibility is good I think.

i let my little ones sleep until they wake up. this keeps them and me happy, lol. We also have a lax schedule, but it works for us. If I worked and wasn't a stay at home mommy i probably would have a tighter schedule, but since we are home together we just take the day as it comes!

I've always let my kids sleep as long as they wanted unless we had somewhere to go. This is also because *I* was sleeping then, too!!

I let the kids over sleep by maybe 30 minutes. I'm pretty laxed with schedules, but we stick to a basic schedule. So they wake up and go to bed about the same time everyday.

Re: wake the baby or let them sleep?

I hate the idea of waking ds but he is on meds that we have to keep on schedule. If he's sleeping when I'm supposed to give them to him, I try to be as gentle about waking him as I can. I sing softly and rub his back until he opens his eyes. I give him his meds and then leave him alone for a bit. Most of the time he goes back to sleep but sometimes he ends up wide awake. Either way, I go with it If it wasn't for the meds, though, I would just let him sleep.

I had a very strict schedule when the twins were babies.. But i always let them sleep as long as they needed/wanted too. Now the schedule has been thrown out.. Just cant follow a schedule with two 2 year olds..

Re: wake the baby or let them sleep?

I usually wake DD up at 6:00 am. If she doesn't wake up on her own, I might let her sleep until 6:30 sometimes. If I let her wake up on her own, her nap schedule gets thrown off, so I'm pretty diligent with morning wake ups. But we only have one child, and she is still little. If we had more than one or an older child, I might just let them sleep in as long as possible.
