Re: Fellow non-vaxers-- has your child ever been sick with a "vax preventable" illnes
Parker had RSV (which I guess there is a vax for but only for premature babies...) at just under a year old. We went to the ER for an allergic reaction to peanuts and brought RSV home
. Doc said it would take a few weeks for him to be back to normal but he was much better in under a week. He's a healthy one! Besides that he's only had one cold in 2 years and that was last week but he's better now!

Re: Fellow non-vaxers-- has your child ever been sick with a "vax preventable" illnes
Just a note that the incubation period for pertussis is also such that she would have been exposed before (or on the same doc visit) as the vax if it was a week separation. Incubation is typically 7-10 days. They do also take 2-3 weeksish to respond by antibodies, etc. And also what others said about multiple doses.
I'm a delayed/selective vaxer but pertussis was one I was concerned about -- mostly because of the misery aspect. It may not be much worse than a bad sinus infection to some but I know people who have said it was much wores, broke ribs coughing, etc. Yeah, I knew my child wasn't likely to die of pertussis -- at least not once they're old enough for the vax to be effective -- so obviously I weighed that, but it is one that is actually around and I didn't want the month long misery either.

Re: Fellow non-vaxers-- has your child ever been sick with a "vax preventable" illnes
Nope, none of my kids have up to date vax and none have been sick from "vaccine preventable" illness.
2/3 have had no vaccines and one got guillian barre the day after a DTaP and MMR, and has had none since he was 15 months old (now almost 5).

Re: Fellow non-vaxers-- has your child ever been sick with a "vax preventable" illnes
I had a student at school get Hepatitis A. She was in a coma for 2 weeks at a children's hospital and almost died. She ended up missing almost 2 months of school. She was in the 8th grade at the time.

DD has had a couple ear infections, RSV at 5 weeks and I guess a "cold" a couple weeks ago. She only had her 2 month vaxes and then we stopped.

Re: Fellow non-vaxers-- has your child ever been sick with a "vax preventable" illnes
I have a 2-year-old here and nothing aside from a few fevers, a few normal colds, and one or two ear infections, and a 2 day bout of croup a few weeks back. She's honestly rarely sick, and it's brief when she is.

It was just a rash with a fever, a high fever yes, I didn't know what was wrong and took him to the ER where he was diagnosed. It turns out he got the measles from my nephew who had just been vaxed and had gotten them from his vax. Then he came to the beach with us and about 8 days later my son had them. It was a long week and a half, but it was no worse than the chicken pox.

Hep B is the one vaxed for at birth and before 1 yr. IIRC Hep A is not required yet?

But i believe that it is also both of our choice and we are both the parents and i would not feel right about going against his wishes even though i don't think there right . We just can't come up with a solution
