Re: Itchy, or Just "Discovering"?

It's normal as long as she's not fidgety or fussy about it. Just keep an eye out for rashes.

Re: Itchy, or Just "Discovering"?

Definitely discovery.

The pinching themselves stage is especially goofy I think.

Re: Itchy, or Just "Discovering"?

OK, DH is really on me to call the ped about this. He gives the bath every night (we only use soap every 2nd or 3rd night, and lotion every night to prevent dry skin from so much bathing), and claims that she's grabbing/itching to the point of making herself red and upset. She doesn't go that far when I'm with her during the day, and we've seen no rashiness or anything unusual.

She is cutting her two front bottom teeth. Could that be part of it? What do I even ask the ped about???

I don't think that it would hurt to bring her in if you are truly concerned about it. DS just turned one and ever since he was really little, he's been pinching/grabbing at everything. This past week he's really been fascinated with his "man parts" while in the bath tub and gets mad when I put his diaper on afterward.

Re: Itchy, or Just "Discovering"?

From the mama of a little one JUST your DD's age, LOL, Ruby is doing THE SAME THING. Pinch, grab, dig around in diaper area, etc. And my DH was much more concerned that I was, too! She has no rash (until today, see post I just put up...), just likes to grab. She does it to me and DH too.

But if you're really concerned, I'd call!

^ Thanks, it's good to know that a girl pretty much the EXACT same age is doing the same thing and fine (aside from the weird rash...hope she feels better soon!)

She has to go in for her flu booster in a week or so, and she doesn't seem distrressed or uncomfortable at all (at least to me), so I think I'm going to try to convince DH to wait til then.

Re: Itchy, or Just "Discovering"?

Didn't read all the replies so sorry if I repeat.
I dont think that at age 6 mo that its discovery. I think that its more of "ooh the diaper is off, I am getting air down there". Its like a magnet is on her hand and also down there. My 2 mo old does the same thing, and clearly she isn't discovering.
I think that the wind is hitting her goodies and she is like "what the heck!?" lol
