A rash that looks like 2nd degree sunburn?

What would could this be? Seriously, it looks *just* like a peely, blistery sunburn. I'm thinking it might be the Charlie's soap so I'm just using dawn now... but I just want to see if anyone else had any experience with a rash like this...

Sounds like a detergent burn. Do the blisters have a puss like center?

Re: A rash that looks like 2nd degree sunburn?

My DD just got this - we went to the ped yesterday for her 15month visit - she called it an ulcerated diaper rash - and says it was probably from something she ate.

I've been keeping her in cpf's coverless and it seems to be clearing up.

Hope that helps - Gwen

The smaller blisters look like water blisters - like from a sunburn... but he does have some on his scrotum that are pus-like.

Nope... hasn't eaten anything new. But I think I may have made it worse because I thought it was yeast so I've been putting Nystatin, Lotrimin, and TTO and water on it which probably dried it out more.

Maybe I'll get some aloe-vera or something... because its all dry.

Sounds like you might have a detergent burn that has or is turning into Impetigo. You might want to call you ped to make sure. Impetigo can spread really quickly and easily. You can try putting an antibiotic cream on it and see if that helps. I'd try bleaching your diapers a bit to make sure you're not spreading a possible infection. Hope the rash clears soon - good luck!

Here's some more info - HTH!
Impetigo Info:
"Impetigo: This type of rash can appear as yellow-brown crusty patches or pus filled pimples or blisters, which is usually accompanied by a lot of surrounding redness. This rash can cover the buttocks, lower abdomen, anus, umbilical cord, and thighs and then spread to other parts of the body. Impetigo is caused by bacteria (streptococci or staphylococci). If you think your baby’s rash is a bacterial infection, be sure and notify your doctor immediately. Your doctor will most likely prescribe a topical or oral antibiotic."

Hmm.. well, see, his pedi has already seen it. And she just said "do you want me to give you some Nystatin?" but I already had some so I said no.

Actually, I just checked on it again and it looks like the ones on his scrotum are just scabby, not pus. I guess it just looked like that right after his dipe came off.... he's in nothing but pajama pants right now though so I'm letting it get nice and aired out so it can heal.

Thanks for the info though, I'll keep an eye out for that.

Sounds like you're keeping on top of it You can also try giving him an Aveeno Oatmeal bath to help soothe/heal the skin - it works great!

Oooh, thanks, I'll try that too.

Thanks mamas. I was pretty certain that it was the detergent (especially since he'd never had a rash before we started using cloth just 5 months ago) but I just needed some reassurance I guess.

Thanks so much!
