Losing weight

so I think you all saw my rant about how I gained 11 pounds in 4 weeks. That on top of the GD, I got my butt in gear. Gave up soda completely...cut my sugar intake in half (or more). Well, I've lost 4 pounds. I know that losing isn't a good idea when pregnant, but given how much I had gained, I've now evened it out. I feel MUCH better. Now it works out that I've gained 3.5 pounds between each appt. I can gain now (in moderation) and not kick myself for it.

Re: Losing weight

Taushauna you have gd too? I gained only 9 pounds entire pregnancy a few times between monthly appts I didn't gain. I'm on a 2100. Calorie diet. I haven't drank soda in a year. And ate healthier this pregnancy then I ever did before. And ended up with gd! Anyhow I just started monitoring. Yesterday. And really since I have been doing the diet plan. And including the snacks I feel better. Just tired because of no sleep. I won't find out for sometime how my gd is doing. Until I have a week of charting the sugars. I'm glad you are doing better! And yeah they don't like for you to loose weight but its all about proper diet. I plan on following a gd diet even after baby. To try to control my food etc. And not pig out.

Re: Losing weight

yes, they said my # was WAY too high. So I went cold turkey on just about everything. I didn't see where I had a choice really...I don't have the time for the counseling or dietitians, so I did what I could on my own

Good for you!!!!!

I've started really kicking my butt into gear, not for loosing weight goals, but for health reasons and I REALLY want to be in the best shape/health I can be when I give birth. Then it will be easier to loose weight after my son is born!

Re: Losing weight

Tashauna do you want me to let you know what my 2100 calories diet consists of? Like what to eat and choices. The best advice they gave was your plate should be half free food like veggies salad. With no more then 2 tbsp dressing the one quarter protien ( meat) and the other 1/4 starch or a carb. If you want me to get into detail I can try to post back here tommorow when I get on the pc. Lmk

Re: Losing weight

I've been loading up on starches and proteins. I should be good with what I've been doing, but we'll see what the doc says on Tues. If he's still yelling at me, then I may be begging you to post it.

I think it's good that you lost some weight and feel much better, just don't loose to much. I'm just concerned with the fact you have no way of monitoring your numbers because it can be a dangerous thing if not controlled.

Re: Losing weight

Tashauna are you poking your finger? As laci said it can be dangerous. I have to poke in the morning. Before breakfast nothing to eat after my after dinner snack that is the only one my perinatologist is concerned about because. Its 100 or 102 and fasting should be 60 to 90 they said if after being on the diet a week and it didn't lower itself they would put me on meds at bedtime a pill. If your not monitoring your numbers. I would ask them for a monitor. I was mad because I had to go to a 2h 15 min class. For the whole monitor speel and the nutritionist. The nutritionist was definately worth it. But the monitor one would have been if I didn't know how to use it ( I'm a nurse) so It wasn't beneficial for me. Please if your not monitoring it talk to the dr. About a monitor. Its worth it in the long run. I do believe I had gd with ds4 and because it was undiagnosed he spent 3 days in nicu. And hooked up to ivs etc. And he would not nurse after that and had to pump everything. I don't want to go thru that again. Gl

Re: Losing weight

the monitors seemed pretty simple to use? I didn't have to do a class for it but it was pretty simple. I had to monitor mine 4x a day and as long as everything stayed fine and with in a decent range, like you said we were good to go off just that. But he wanted to keep a close eye on it. Mine weren't very high to begin with so we didn't need to so much lower but watch it and see.
