Nutritional yeast uses/users

We love to sprinkle nutri yeast from our health food store on fresh hot popcorn. Yummy and addicting, but what else is it good for or in or on?

I mix it with butter and salt and pepper and put it on macaroni. I also like it on broccoli, dont know why?

Vegan Vittles (cookbook) has a TON of recipes with it in it, for example...

Vegan cheese
Soups
fried tofu
chick peas a la king
quiche
mac and cheese
pot roast
gravy

Mix it in your salad dressing or sprinkle on your salad yummy!

Oh, I love it on popcorn, too!

When I was a kid we put it on the dog's food to repel fleas on the dogs but I don't know if it really works.

I seem to remember that it is a good source of B vitamins?

Re: Nutritional yeast uses/users

I use it all the time. I have the "Uncheese Cookbook" and it's in pretty much every recipe.

I also put it in smoothies, and sometimes hide it in other food. Honestly though, I'm not of huge fan of it alone. It tastes like burnt electrical wire to me. (not that I've tasted that, but YKWIM).

Maybe I need a new source for my nutritional yeast.

I sprinkle it on anything that I would like cheese on. Eggs, salads, beans, rice, etc. I am a bit of a nutritional yeast junkie though

Yes it does sort of meet that "cheese" need taste. Thanks for your input. I'm going to check out both of those cook books.

Makes great gravy. I use about 2 heaping tb to 2 cups of water. Add about 2 tb of Bragg Amino acid and bring to boil. Thicken with cornstarch and water mixture(equal amounts). This makes the best gravy. Similar to chicken or turkey.

I add it to soups to make them taste like chicken soup. Gives a great flavor.

I have to try it again on popcorn. I didn't like it. But maybe because my flakes are big? Maybe I should puree them in the coffee mill.

You can use it in place of cheese in any recipe. I use it a lot in sauces for over veggies or in soup.
