Burning pain
I have been bfing for almost 4 months and suddenly have extreme pain. It feels like fire ants are inside my breast. My actual nipple isn't sore. The pain starts behind the nipple and goes deep inside and down. It is a constant burning with occasional shooting pain. DD is on antibiotics, so I am wondering if it is thrush. The nipple isn't affected so I was maybe it could be mastitis?

Re: Burning pain
I *think* that sounds like thrush. Burning pain is usually yeast. If it was mastitis you would have a fever and your breast would be painful to touch. Since DD is on antibiotics it is probably thrush. Check out this link.

Re: Burning pain
Hi -I had what sounds like the exact same thing after being treated with antibiotics and it was diagnosed as thrush. This website is a good resource too (see under Breastfeeding Help section, "Candida Protocol"):
www.drjacknewman.com I would really recommend finding a good lactation consultant or BF-knowledgeable doctor to confirm the diagnosis and monitor treatment. I know in my case things got a lot worse until I got good help, and as a result it took a long time to get rid of (but we made it!) I actually ended up going to the Jack Newman clinic! |
