Re: What can I do with flax seed?

a better question, what can you NOT do with flaxseed!! just like people have been saying you can put it in anything! Grinding it works well getting the most nutrition, but you can leave them whole to help with um er constipation (you have to drink a lot of water with it though!!!) use them ground for part of the flour in recipes or in place of bread crumbs in meatloaf. and they are really good in oatmeal!! they are also good for milk production if you ar bf!!

Re: What can I do with flax seed?

A friend recently told me that she used flax seed and water as an egg substitute in banana bread. She had already started making the batter before she realized she was out of eggs, so she used this substitution and said that it was the best batch of banana bread she ever made! Nice nutty flavor.

It's also really yummy mixed with honey on toast and a great way to get your kiddos to eat it! Grind 1 TBSP. flax seed and mix with 2 TBSP. honey and spread on toast. Ooooooh so good!

Re: What can I do with flax seed?

I sprinkle it on my homemade pizzas and calzones. I also use it with pretty much everything I bake - Peanut Butter cookies, oatmeal cookies, breads...

Definately grind it before you do anything. (You can do this in a coffee grinder if you did not already buy it ground.) It's more easily digested that way and then you get the healthy stuff) I like to put it in homemade granola bars! You can easily substitute it for any dry ingredient in a granola bar recipe that may not already include flaxseed. I put about 1/3 C. for a 9x13 pan (along with lots of other good stuff!)

Re: What can I do with flax seed?

The organic bakery I work for in the summer uses these a LOT
They soak them in water overnight, to sprout them...unlocks the nutrients better than just grinding.
We use them whole, after sprouting in blueberrymuffins, banana muffins, and pumpkin muffins, they are used sprouted, toasted and ground in the 20 grain bread...and I think she does a special Christmas date bar...with a graham cracker crust, date layer, flax seed and honey layer, and crumb topping....it sells really well too!
The baker accidentally put some in the peanut butter/oatmeal cookies once and they sold better that week.
Hope this helps!

I grind it up in a coffe grinder (it's useless by the way if you don't grind it up first) & add it to lots of stuff. My favorite is yogurt. It sort of tastes like cheesecake. Also I try w/avacado...
