Baby acne advice?

My poor LO is one month old and is getting baby acne all over his little cheeks. It looks like he's getting it where his face touches my breast while he nurses, or where sometimes he gets milk on his cheeks during nursing or spitting up. I imagine the little zits are uncomfortable for him.

Does anybody have suggestions for dealing with this? I have wiped his face with a damp washcloth, but I didn't want to put anything else on him. Will it just heal itself if I leave it alone? (Can you tell this is my 1st baby?)

thanks for any tips!

It's normal mama, even for bottle fed babies!! Just keep wiping his face after he nurses. I know my Korean friends actually use Cetaphil face wash (very mild stuff) as baby soap, so I suppose if you wanted to try that you could, but you don't need to (and really shouldn't) use other acne products on their skin.
Oh, & wipe his neck too. My son is chunky, & milk would get stuck under his chin & he wound up w/a yeast rash.

Cetaphil is fine, it's better than most baby soaps available and won't dry their skin. But it's really not necc to do anything, it goes away on it's own in a few weeks. Whatever you do, don't pick or pop them!

don't forget to avoid anything that might irritate his skin....perfume, scented soaps, etc. (on you) Also, I knew a little girl that was sensitive to makeup her grandma would wear.

I used a little Aquaphor on Ds's baby acne. It helped for a while. After that stopped working I used California BAby Calendula cream (from Target) and that worked well too. I liked it better than the Aquaphor b/c it wasn't greasy, but I did put it on several times a day.

Re: Baby acne advice?

My son had baby acne pretty bad, and we didn't do anything. Just washed his face with a warm cloth (only water) and it went away on its own.

this is him at 4 weeks old:

and this is a month later at 8 weeks:

it will go away. make sure you aren't using soap on your breast or other skin that he touches, and wash his face with warm water daily.

all my boys had this at one month of age. you just have to wait a few weeks and it will go away. cetaphil creme also helped. i hate the baby acne stage because you just want your beautiful baby to look perfect

Thanks mamas! I feel better after reading all your posts. The pictures are also encouraging. I will just keep wiping with a warm washcloth and wait for the acne stage to pass.
