And a *good* endocrinologist will tell you that medicating to a TSH between 0.5 and 2 will give you the best results - the "normal" values on the test are nearly meaningless.

I know that when my TSH was 12, I could barely get out of bed. At 7 I'm cold all the time. When it is around 5 my hair falls out in clumps. When it's around 3 I don't sleep well. Below 2, though, and I'm just peachy.

I agree with 2 being the magic number. DH's is back just over 2, and he is feeling a little off again.

TSH can affect your entire body. DH had mood swings, temperature problems, ect when his was off.

Re: UPDATE in OP my 3 year old has an enlarged thyroid...need advice

I took her today to the ped and he made her do more thyroid bloodwork (anitbodies and all). He also gave me a script for a thyroid/neck ultrasound. He said that it would be good to just make sure everything looks okay. I am happy he is taking a more aggressive approach to my daughter's health. He did say he did not think cancer when I asked.
What do you guys think?

I'm told it differs from person to person, but I'd guess she's sleepy, grumpy, moody... though I guess the moody might be hard to tell in a 3 year old

I also know I gain weight and/or have a hard time losing weight when my TSH is high.

A symptom list I used at one point to beat up on my doctor is below, which might also guide your evaluation of your daughter...there are other (longer) lists that google can provide.

Is there a difference between a goiter and just an enlarged thyroid? The doctor made it sound like she didn't have a goiter but something else.

Grumpy yes, sleepy NO. She has serious sleep issues.

I *think* a goiter comes with hyperthyroid (very very low TSH). Has the doctor said anything about an autoimmune issue? I was told that if your body attacks your thyroid, it can cause inflammation (swelling), which causes things to go weird.

Ryan was hyperthyroid, but didn't have goiters. His TSH was a staggering 13 when he was diagnosed.

His thyroid problems are caused by grave's disease.

I'm betting you money once things start to get treated/righted, you will notice some changes for the good. We were amazed at just what was caused/affected by the thyroid mess.
