Can I claim homeschooling supplies on my income tax??

Just wondering if I can claim all of the things I buy for homeschooling on my income tax return this year? I've been saving all of my receipts and was hoping that I can.

I was going to ask the same thing. My sister suggested that I could but I'd never even thought of it before.

Yeah, I just spent $500 yesterday on curriculum, manipulitives and art supplies! I'd love to recoup some of that if I can! I've spent close to $1000 total this year already.

No idea. I do know that you can claim sales tax. I've never thought about claiming homeschool supplies. Probably because we spend less than $500 for the kids on curriculum and the rest of it I would be buying anyway, as it's all art supplies and games.

No, you can't claim homeschooling expenses on your taxes. Wish you could, though.

Some states do on their state taxes, but for federal taxes, no

There was a big uproar about this in Michigan a few years back. The thing you need to realize is that if they let you claim it, you're giving "them" that much more reason to invade in on your homeschool - making laws more strict. While it would be nice to be able to claim it, I'd rather have things this way to have more freedom.

I didn't even think about it that way! I completely agree with you. I'd rather spend the money on things as I see fit for my kids and have my freedom.
