Disappointing follow-up from DELTA/FREEDOM Airlines

I was not satisfied in my form letter email regarding the mother who was removed from the Freedom/Delta Airlines flight out of Vermont. So I wrote Delta back and JUST TODAY finally got a response.

Here's what I wrote the day of or after the nurse-in:
Quote:
Is there any other information? It is nice to know Delta is looking
into the incident, but a form letter response does not help allay our
frustrations with the appearance of uncaring in this incident. We
appreciate that Delta has likely gotten a flood of response from this
incident. But we have seen no public apology to the woman or her
family. We have seen no real evidence that Freedom/Delta feel they
were
truly wrong. We heard the employee was disciplined, but that does not
mean much as discipline could have been as simple as instructions to
"not do that again." BIG DEAL! This family was forced to abruptly
change their travel plans and there has been no public statement or
awareness of it being made up to them with future travel (if they'd
ever
trust your partners in the future to treat them respectfully).

I'm sorry this is likely coming across quite sinisterly as tone is
impossible to convey in email. We (my husband and I) are just
disappointed that this occured. As I'm sure you are frustrated that
Delta's name has been drug into it despite it being a Freedom airline
and crew... making you guilty by association. I will likely never have
reason to fly Freedom, but we did just book a flight to Connecticut
from
Illinois and while Delta and it's partners had a flight schedule and
ticket price that worked for us; we went with a different airline
specifically in light of this incident.

Thank you for reading and for "investigating"
Sara Xxxxx
Here was their response:
Quote:
Dear Mrs. Xxxxx (i removed my last name here and below for Internet safety):

Thank you for your additional comments.

All comments we received about this situation were forwarded to the
department heads that have a direct responsibility concerning the areas
of service identified. Upon completion of any necessary investigation,
internal follow-up is done with the individuals and departments
involved
to ensure improved handling in the future. Additionally, disciplinary
matters are considered confidential. We apologize for any
misunderstanding that may have occurred. However, we do not anticipate
any further statements being issued about this matter.

Mrs. Xxxxx, we appreciate your selection of Delta and will always
welcome the opportunity to be of service.

Sincerely,

Cathy L. Little
Manager
Customer Care
I just thought some others may be curious to see their response. It seems to me that they just push this issue under the rug and are very tight-lipped. It's so sad to me that they are not expressing more concern. I'm VERY much looking forward to nursing my son during our flight(s) next week. We are flying Southwest and they said they welcome mothers to nurse their babies to relieve the pressure.

That is disappointing...
It did seem to get covered up because I never had heard anything again.

That is kind of ridiculous, I'm sure they had a flood of emails and letters though. They need to realize that more women are breastfeeding these days and they are going to avoid their airline simply because of that issue. A pity they couldn't suck up their pride and make an apology.

Not to mention...dont pediatricians tell you to nurse upon takeoff and landing to help the kiddos??

I may be the black sheep of the breastfeeding community.. but I think that this was turned into a much bigger issue by people who were not involved directly..
and im pretty sure that's all I can say without making some more upset..

You are welcome to say whatever you want. I doubt you will upset anyone who is not already upset by the situation. I think that an appropriate level of "issue" was made by those directly AND indirectly involved. It could JUST as easily been any one of us. She wasn't leaning in some passengers face while nursing, she wasn't even at the front of the plane where most people would see her. She was in the very back minding her OWN business.

I want Delta and it's associates and OTHER airlines to know that this is NOT acceptable behavior. That we will and DO take our business elsewhere DIRECTLY from this incident.

It is more and more acceptable to nurse a baby up to 12m of age. And it's because of things like this being made into an "issue" by those "not involved directly". Perhaps if we take the time to make THIS into a big issue then bit by bit it will also become more socially acceptable to nurse a child up to age 2. (Her daughter was 23m old.)

I'll just add my 2 cents: JetBlue was 100% supportive and actually suggested that if I needed to nurse to please go ahead. I was next to this business looking chap with a laptop and there wasn't much room.. so they asked him (without me asking) if he would like to move to a clear row (without mentioning I needed to feed my son)... so I had a whole row to myself! I asked for a blanket to cover up (I'm not ashamed, but modesty is really important to me) and they said they didn't have extra... but to just nurse without covering up if I felt comfortable.... which, I had a whole row to myself and a nursing top on.. so we nursed for almost the entire 5 hour flight!

Jetblue ROCKS!

Wow that is really Cool of them!! I just wanted to add that I think more ppl need to be aware that it is NORMAL to nurse past 12 months and this is one way of doing that!! WTG for everyone who participated in the nurse in!!

Re: Disappointing follow-up from DELTA/FREEDOM Airlines

I definatly think this issue wasnt made big enough!!!!!! Very few woman actually do BF and most dont even make it to the DR/WHO recommened timeline. Now bring issues of a Mother being KICKED OFF A PLANE (and the issues at Victoria Secret, Toys R Us, etc) and try and get more Mothers to BF ..... yeah right! If I had heard about this while pg with my 1st I would have though "Wow, I cant BF anywhere!"

I hope Delta/Freedom/WHOEVER feels like sh*t for treating someone like that for doing what is totally normal and right ~ breastfeeding! I definatly wont be flying with them any time in the future!

PS - I was told at Chillis by another customer "OMG, now my dinner is ruined" when I BF my DD (she was 6months old) so Now I BF everywhere I go and dont make my kids wait ..... the more children who see BF moms the better chance our society has of accepting BF as normal again thanks to the years of nowledge that we lost when formula was invented!
