Trainers: Fishsticks vs Tinkle time

http://www.ladderhilldesign.com/pages/patterns.html

http://hyenacart.com/FishsticksDesig...p?c=11&p=27850

So I've found these 2 patterns. I like the look of the ladder hill ones more, but like the fact that the fishsticks goes up to larger sizes. These are the 2 I'm going to choose from. I'd appreciate some insight from those who've sewn either or both.

Thanks

I don't have experience with trainers yet, but I've heard that the ladder hill one uses up fabric scraps better. :-) And so cute!! I will probably do that one when the time comes.

I like the thought of it using up scraps better. Good point

Tinkle Time is a pdf download and Fishsticks is printed and mailed. So if you need instant gratification. I went with Tinkle time because it's snaping. I figure just starting out with PT we will need the snaps.

Re: Trainers: Fishsticks vs Tinkle time

I bought the Tinkle Time Trainer pattern and was horribly disappointed with my first attempt. I have not been brave enough to try again. The thighs left several inch gaps and was just overall not a good fit for my boy. I like that it snaps but with the leg gaps, they are unuseable.
I also made some from Katrina's soaker pattern adding a soaker and a piece of fleece to part of the outside and it's trim and fits great.

The Fishsticks pattern isn't a trainer pattern, it is just an undies pattern.

I tried the Tinkle Time pattern and the legs gaped on my very skinny son. I need to alter the legs to get it to work. Other than the gaping thighs I really liked the pattern.

Re: Trainers: Fishsticks vs Tinkle time

thanks for the input. I went and rechecked the fishstick pattern and yes they are for undies, but she does have some instructions to modify them into trainers

I love the tinkle time pattern. I make them with FOE and I love that they use smaller pieces of fabric, perfect for all my scraps!

Modelling shot with the "cheese" face!

I do also make a few changes in the way the soaker is sewn, I hide it between the inner and outer layers. I also sew the inside and the outside separately and then put them together and encase the edges in FOE so there're no serged seams showing.

I too am having trouble with the fit of the tinkle time trainer. For my tall skinny boy not only to the legs gap but the front of the trainer sags. Too bad I made 15 of them up before I did a check of how they fit.

Those look great, did you have trouble at all with the legs like previous posters?
