What to buy?
DS is 5 months old and we have ec'ed since he was about 3 weeks old. We have lots of misses mainly because I've got a 5 yo and 3 yo to keep up with and I can't always get ds to the potty fast enough or someone is screaming that someone else did something and I'm playing referee and we miss.
Anyway...I have been using bgos organics but he is outgrowing the rise in them and I'm looking to redo my stash. I thought I might go with flats and covers but don't know if that's the best choice while ec'ing. I can't really spend loads this time around (blew it with the bgs! ).

Re: What to buy?
For at home, we do just fitteds, no cover. Right now they are fitteds I made (knit outer and terry inner) and velcro closure. However, now that DS is crawling/moving so much, sometimes the velcro rubs his legs if they aren't on just right, so I'm trying to figure a way to get snaps on my next batch. ...Anyways, I would just recommend any kind of fitted. Sometimes you can find some cheap ones on FSOT.
I got some flats to try around 5 1/2 months and now only use them when we've ran out of fitteds. They take too long to pin together. DS hates being on his back to put his diaper on, so that's why I love the fitteds (with some sort of closure). I also have some fitteds that don't have any velcro/snaps and need a cover to keep on and those are ok, but still are a tiny bit harder in my opinion to put on in a hurry. And then when we go out, we use a cover. The reason why I like no cover at home is so I can tell immediately when he is wet (for misses) and it's the quickest to take off and put on. And I just have him wear babylegs at home. Hope that helps, sorry if it's long. |

Re: What to buy?
We use wool undies stuffed with a cloth wipe for the little accidents, and we also use the Gerber undies. We have the 2T size and they are pretty small, they make 18m too. Those work well, but don't really provide enough fabric to prevent the pee from squirting right out if we dont have a cover over it. I sewed a little more absorbent fabric into the Gerber undies and they are perfect. Easy to get on and off, especially when we are out and about. They are pretty cheap too. Like maybe 7 dollars for 3 pair.

Re: What to buy?
Around 5mo is when I started using trainers some of the time. I used GMD flats with the Neat Fold (only need 1 pin but I needed a big flat) some of the time also, coverless.
Wacky tip that probably only works with boys - I had a trainer stash leftover from other kids and I was surprised at how some brands of them (sized for toddlers) worked fine for a pee miss on a little kiddo who is just rolling or crawling (gravity doesn't make them fall off)... I forget when this idea struck me but at 10m I'm using Imse Vimse (some inappropriate size), Daisy Doodles (XL! but they even hold a poo miss! gotta love DDs), and (no longer around so don't bother checking FSOT too hard) Cloth Thoughts (not AIO, just CT pockets size A or B)

Re: What to buy?
It was around 5 months that we just switched to pull-on trainers (cheapest available were Gerber 3 packs). It was so much easier than unfastening diapers. If I was worried about it, I'd use a cover.
They do make small trainers available at various EC retailers, but Gerbers and the JCpenny brands worked for us because we weren't looking for maximum absorbancy. And absolutely no snap around the crotch clothes by then. Just too much trouble! ^____^

Re: What to buy?
I started using trainers at 5 mo, only to hit a massive pause when she started crawling, standing, walking etc at 7 mo. The easiest system for a mobile, impatient baby (which they turn into really fast) is prefold + prefold belt. No pins, no Velcro, no snaps, just pull off and tuck back in. So much quicker and simpler than trainers and they even flip up and down for the potty like Ecapants (I coveted those during our fling with trainers). I don't have flats but they might work too in this system? Anyway, it's seriously cheap too. We put a cover on for trips out.

Re: What to buy?
Just to update: I ended up buying flats and Duo covers. I figured they would be the most flexible as far as size and what role they could play (i.e. trifold in cover, snappi coverless, the pf belt [great idea!]). I've also got 3 IV trainers that we use occasionally but they aren't pleasant to deal with if we miss a poo. lol
I may look into more trainers though as he gets more mobile. I think they are probably the most comfy out of everything we have, too. Thank you all for the suggestions!
