talk to me about hidden PUL

so I ahve lost the fitted love. I love all the prints, however and already have 30 diapers cut out for DS that I just need to sew up. I am thinking about making them with a hidden PUL layer...

anyone have experience w/ hidden PUL AIOs/AI2s???

Re: talk to me about hidden PUL

I did not have great success. I bought some that had wicking issues, but it could have been the type of PUL or other factors ... I have never had a problem with Print PUL. You can find Poly Print PUL on FSOT - maybe someone would trade with you? GL

I do lots of diapers with hidden pul and a cotton outer for covers and AIO I don't have problems with wicking you should be fine as long as you use poly thread.

Re: talk to me about hidden PUL

I have used a hidden layer for AIOs and AI2s, and I really like 1 mil PUL. Seems to wash up and have a longer life for me personally.

Don't have wicking issues, but part of that is because of the inserts I use. I love the hemp/velour combo.

Re: talk to me about hidden PUL

I have been making my AIOs and pockets with hidden PUL for the same reason... all the cute prints! I do have one diaper that wicks after a period of time (shorter than other dipes) but I believe that the thread I used wasn't poly... I used this color changing thread and I am pretty sure it was cotton. I also didn't run it through the dryer on high for a bit to seal up the PUL.

It is a Novelty type diaper anyway. It is a football team dipe that she only wears during the games LOL... DH's orders.

Re: talk to me about hidden PUL

I have hidden PUL diapers (they make up my whole stash except for night diapers), and they do tend to wick sooner than the solid or print PUL that I have, but it is still outside of the window that I normally change, if that makes sense. I usually change every 2-3 hours, but if I were to leave it on longer than 3 hours it will more than likely wick, but that usually isn't a problem because I change before then.

Re: talk to me about hidden PUL

Brandilyn, if you make them AI2s, where the shell does not have absorbency to it and all the absorbency is put into a snap-in soaker, then you'll minimize the chance of wicking. Here is how I make my AI2s...the shell has a print outer (preferably poly, but cotton will do), hidden PUL layer, inner microfleece (suedecloth would work too) and then the snap-in soaker has a lot of absorbency...like 7 layers of bamboo fleece topped with cotton velour or bamboo velour. I serge them. But if you do them turned and topstitched, don't topstitch around the legs, again to minimize wicking. And everyone is right about using poly thread. Oh, and don't pin through the PUL when you're constructing the shell (except the very very edges that will get serged off or turned inside the seam allowance).

Re: talk to me about hidden PUL

All my diapers have a hidden layer. I personally uses them myself and have only had wicking to much when ds has a super soaker night and pees threw the insert.
