Need Advice for 3 in the back seat
I am due with baby #3 in Feb. I have a 4 you who is a high back booster and a 2 year and 8 month old who is in a 5 point harness. I tried to fit the base in the back seat however it was so crowded. I have a 2007 Camry and the option of a van is out due to finances. What can I do. Can My 2 year old who is 30 pounds fit in a hogh back booster due to his weight, What are the opstions, Please help, My utmost concern is the safety of all 3 children. Thanks.

Re: Need Advice for 3 in the back seat
You do not want to put your 2 year old in a booster. Actually, 2 year olds should be rear-facing still because it is so much safer and most seats will easily accommodate most 2 year olds rf'ing.
Some seats are narrower and some puzzle better next to each other than others. What do you have now? And what is your budget for a new seat (or more than one if they are needed)? Boosters are actually a little harder to fit in a 3 across situation because they can be difficult to buckle when up against another seat. With harnessed seats you just have to get it in there and then just buckle the harness each time.

Re: Need Advice for 3 in the back seat
I know there is a mom on car-seat.org that has three across a Camry. She has two Radians and a Marathon. What highback booster is your DS in? Honestly, while it seems a booster would be easier for the 2yr old, in reality, they are harder to buckle. I would probably do a Radian for the 2yr old and maybe even for the baby, as they fit newborns nicely. If you get two Radians, then the booster should fit fine.

Re: Need Advice for 3 in the back seat
What kind of seats are all three of your current seats?
The 30lb 2yo should absolutely NOT go in a booster. I would probably even turn him/her back rearfacing if that is an option. What is your budget for new seats? I don't know your set up but 2 Radians and a booster should fit. Or the infant seat with a Radian on either side. If financially able, I would probably get your 4yo back into a harness as well. Few 4yo are mature enough to sit properly in a booster 100% of the time...some are, but not most. So if you bought 2 Radians and used your current infant seat for the baby, by the time the baby outgrew the infant seat your 4yo may be mature enough for a booster, and you could pass that seat to the baby and put 4yo back into the booster. With three across, having all of them harnessed will be the easiest to get in and out since you don't have to get hands between the seats to do up the seatbelt. |

Re: Need Advice for 3 in the back seat
Before we were able to get our new van after having number three it went something like this: marathon FF on one side, infant carrier - I believe this was installed without the base but I can't say for sure but it was installed and lodge between the two seats and was not something that we removed from the vehicle to use as a carrier. And a cosco something or other RF on the other side. The seats were pretty wedged in there and like I said we couldn't use our carrier as a carrier but it got the kids safely where we needed to go.

Re: Need Advice for 3 in the back seat
What seats do you have? You should be able to get 3 across in your Camry without a huge problem, but it might involve getting narrower seats for the two older children.

Radians are nice and narrow, may work well for you.

I also wanted to add, for the op, that often seatbelt installs help in 3 across situations because you can position the outside carseats a little further to the outside. So if you are currently using LATCH, switch to seatbelts if you need a little more space. Also each carseat has to be independently tight, which means that it is still tightly in even when the seats next to it are taken out. So to test that you have to install one tight, then install another next to it (tight), then remove the first and see if the second is still tight. And so on... |

Re: Need Advice for 3 in the back seat
I have a evenflo high back booster for the 4 year old, and a graco nautilus for the 2 yo which is a 5 point harness. The problem is fitting the base in the back also. I have a graco snugride base for the infant seat. It all seems overwhelming. We really dont have the money to buy new seats due to the holiday seaseon, however I am willing to take any suggestions on what will fir the best. thanks.
