Re: Fleece or Wool

I only use wool, never been fond of the fleece covers. However, if you buy recycled wool its very cheap. You can get some longies for about $10.

Re: Fleece or Wool

The difference is in how they act. Wool absorbs liquid/dampness, as well as holding it in (30% of its weight in liquid) before "releasing" it. Fleece doesn't absorb at all; it repels.

I had some of both with DS#2; we had more compression leaks with fleece, but ease of care was nice. DS#3 can't do fleece, though, so it's all wool for us now. Recycled wool is definitely a cost-effective option!

Re: Fleece or Wool

I have both wool and fleece. I like both but gotta say I really like the fleece because they are so easy to care for. I'd just toss them in with whatever load (we never got poop on them) I was doing at the time. They are stretchy, soft and cozy.

I also felt they were less intimidating to care for because they were less expensive and I didn't have to worry about felting them or staining them or lanolizing them, etc. I was surprised to find just how durable fleece (good fleece) is. Our fleece covers look great even after lots of use (to be fair, so does our wool).

I have Dancing Bears Bear Bottoms soakers and just love them! They are not trim though. I found them to be perfect for warmer weather paired with just a t-shirt. I didn't like the Stacinator fleece but that's just because I'm don't prefer side-snaps. I'm trying out a Swaddlebees fleece wrap and love how it is so trim and cozy and cute, but it's a little too trim in the crotch I think - I'm having a little trouble getting all the diaper tucked in there, but I'm going to keep experimenting with it.

Re: Fleece or Wool

Fleece needs to be washed more often, it holds the smell.

Re: Fleece or Wool

I have both and like both equally for different reasons. I like wool longies and wool soakers for under clothes. I like fleece to use alone (not under clothes) but to wear around the house and nighttimes some. I like how wool doesnt' need to be washed as often but with fleece you can throw it in with any laundry, not just diapers, so even though it does get washed more, its still easy to wash. I do some sort of laundry here nearly EVERYday LOL! So the chances are i can easily throw in fleece covers most any day. I plan to use alot more fleece this spring/summer for going outside playing. I dont wanna worry about getting our wool dirty since its a pain to wash/dry and my kids seem to get dirty the warmer the weather gets LOL I don't want popsickles dripping on my pretty wool
