I use vinegar to soften the water and prevent build up in my diapers, though keep in mind it is not recommended for synthetic fabrics, though i have not had any issues with mine. If you ever have any questions feel free to ask.

Re: houston mamas use a water softener for washing CDs?

I have a plumber in my mother's side of the family who has noticed a strong trend amongst his clients (mostly doctors)-- They have been getting rid of their water softeners. Apparently it has something to do with sodium, but I'm really clueless.

I'd suggest Rockin Green detergent. Her Classic Rock works with hard water and she's about to release Hard Rock, which is good for the hardest water.
