Bleaching PUL?

We all of the sudden have the stinkies. So, I'm gonna bleach. I hate the idea of bleach, but I am way too lazy to jump through all the hoops it takes to get rid of stink without it. But I have several PUL AIO's and I'm wondering if those survive being washed in bleach or if I should leave those out and hope they aren't the culprit. Anyone know?

Re: Bleaching PUL?

I bleached some pockets that had pul and now they smell bleachy. Its not the pul I would worry about on an AIO, its all of the other poly fibers in an AIO. Plastic hates bleach. I heard that hydrogen peroxide might work and it sanitizes. Or even try vinegar and oxy clean. I would only do bleach on all cotton.

Re: Bleaching PUL?

hmmm, interesting. I made these myself and the only non-natural fiber in there is PUL. maybe I will start with one and see what happens. When I have tried oxyclean in the past (like five years ago with my older son's dipes), it made everything really scratchy.

I've bleached my BGs & FBs a few times, and they're okay. I think if you don't do it often, it doesn't hurt them. In fact, BG recommends an occasional bleaching.

Re: Bleaching PUL?

Depends on the PUL you have...how good it really is. I had some pockets that I made myself and the PUL just stopped working on it's own after awhile (shortly after I started adding vinegar to the first rinse). After that I switched to prefolds and prefitteds and covers and would only do "weird" things to the prefolds and prefitteds (bleaching, vinegar, extra hot washes etc.)

I bleach mine every once in a while. Not an issue here. ANd I don't do a soak in bleach, I think having it on there longer would do more damage!

Re: Bleaching PUL?

I have bleached mine every so often, the wahm made, bg's, fb's, osocozy's and Drybee AI2's have all came out just fine. However my coolababies DO NOT like bleach, but then again I think the coolababies don't like anything, they were cheap to buy and are just not holding up like the rest of them.

Re: Bleaching PUL?

I have found just a few drops of tea tree oil to work wonders. I didn't believe people at first but they were right.

Re: Bleaching PUL?

Alright, hmmmmm, I'm going to look for my tee tree oil. I hate using bleach! But if it doesn't work, I'll try it. Sounds like my PUL may live through it. And it's all mama-made anyhow, so I can always make some more.
