Newborn Circumcision Decision

Just wondering if you chose to circumcise your child(ren) at birth, do you regret the decision? Do you regret not circumcising at birth?

No judgment, I'm just curious. I realize everybody won't fit the poll choices, but just do the best you can. No need to comment unless you want to.

I considered circumcision for my son no more then I would have considered FGM if he had been a girl. My LO was developing for 9 months in my womb, I wouldnt consider removing healthy tissue from his tiny body. Also, DH is intact, and we know full well the benefit and function of having what nature gave ya

I had my DS circ'd, but b/c I didn't know better. I wish we hadn't done it to him, and if we had another we wouldn't do it again.

I'm not voting, but we are due in May with a boy that will remain INTACT (I'm not voting because while I'm sure I won't regret it, i can't say for SURE right?)

This is where I am as well. Good luck with your decision.

Re: Newborn Circumcision Decision

My son was circ'd at 2 weeks old by his ped (not done at birth b/c of a NICU stay.) I was present during the procedure, which was rough. I regret having it done. DH doesn't. DH felt very strongly about circ'ing, and at the time I did it b/c I thought that's what you were supposed to do. FF a few months and the ped notices that DS' circ isn't complete- there's still a lot of loose skin around the tip. He recommended getting DS re-circ'd at a year. This time I was a bit older and wiser and did my own research- the doc admitted it was a purely cosmetic procedure, and said DS would have to go under general anesthesia for it. There was NO WAY I was exposing my son to the risks of general anesthesia for a purely cosmetic procedure, so I declined. DH was bit annoyed that I didn't do it, but he was in Iraq at the time and couldn't do anything about my decision. DS is now 4.5 years old and while he looks neither fully circ'd or fully intact, he has never had any issues down there so we are leaving it alone.

When I was pg with DD (2.5 years after DS), the topic came up again b/c we didn't know the gender. I said I wouldn't circ. DH was once again adamant about having it done. I said no way, I wouldn't consent to it in the hospital. If DH wanted it done he had to find a pediatric urologist who specialized in it b/c no one else was getting near that part of our little boy. I said that knowing DH is lazy and probably wouldn't follow through. Luckily, DD was a girl, so the whole thing was moot anyway. And since she is our last, there won't be any debates in the future.

Re: Newborn Circumcision Decision

We did not circ. DS is 16 months, and we have no regrets. DH isn't circ'ed either - he's from the Scotland, where pretty much no one has it done.
