Re: Newborn Circumcision Decision

My DS is and there really wasn't any thought about it either. The subject came up maybe once and there really wasn't much discussion about it. No regrets it's just the way it is.

Same here except my DH is circ'd so I'm especially proud of him not putting up a fight. I think it helped that neither his sister or mine circ'd their sons once they found out how it's done.

Re: Newborn Circumcision Decision

DS (14mos) is circ'ed... and it was THE WORST decision ive made as a parent. the Dr made us wait almost 12hrs after we could have been discharged from the hospital- people kept telling us "he will be here in 45mins" "he has a csection, so he will be here in another hr..." on and on and on and on. i was already against the circ. idea, but DH is circ'ed and wanted our son to be too... after 8hrs of waiting, i was like, this is a sign, we shouldnt be doing this... and i should have stuck to my guns! when the dr finally got there, he botched the job, left my 1day old baby with a stitch in his penis! im scarred for life. DONT DO IT! there iis just NO need for it. i really REALLY regret not sticking to my beliefs more, and DH even realizes it was a mistake now.

It appears that here in the United States it's close to half being circ'd and half not these days. I like that the "everyone else is" reason is no longer relevant in any ones arguments. Most likely all boys who get dressed in a locker room in their teen years will encounter both circ'd and uncirc'd peers (not that they'll be looking anyways).

And if you look in Canada, apparently the stats are more like only 10% are circ'd now.

In my experience, during tabling for the nation circumcision information resource centers or if the issue ever comes up with friends, I find that a large group of younger men teens - early 30s are either, Intact, are upset they are circumcised, angry they are circumcised, or ambivalent about their own circumcision but would not choose to circumcised any future children. I think with the internet and open access to information more adult men are albe to examine the facts. But that is here in the US. I believe that the Canadian Medical association issued a statement that there are legal ramifications to infant circumcision.

Re: Newborn Circumcision Decision

We have circ'd all of our boys.

The only thing I regret is not having it done by a pediatric urologist before the third.

If we have anymore I will just schedule an appt with the pediatric urologist and bypass the pediatrician and the OB.

Oh and I do regret not telling them to do a "half" circumcision and I will be telling them not to do a full one next time.
