It was actually pretty easy once I figured stuff out. I baked the cake in a loaf pan and the 2 little mini loaves (I believe they were meatloaf pans).
I leveled on of the minis and stuck the non cut one on top. I cut a little groove in the large loaf where I wanted the cab to go. Then just carved out a bit in the front for the engine, and some in the back. Kit Kat bars for the beams, 3 stuck together and cut a bit shorter for the engine block, 1 cut short for the side mirrors. Viva puff cookies for the wheels and the bottom of one for the air filter, Some swiss rolls for the headlight assembly a nd the just gum drops for the decorations. I used a pill bottle for the spool cus I didn't have an empty thread spool, black licorice laces and a plastic hook from some of DS new socks colored sliver. Dh did they eyes for me cus I SO can't draw, and was tired of messing about. It was pretty easy done that way. We did a 1st attempt cutting pieces from a sheet cake but too many cut edges and crumbly cake just made a HUGE mess. =)
