Soccer mama's - help!

My son will be in soccer at the age of 4 this fall. I was wondering if you could tell me about good shin guards that don't cost a lot of $$. I'm totally lost with this kind of stuff. Oh and is there anything else I should know. I haven't a clue about soccer. lol!

We got some good ones at Walmart. He probably doesn't need cleats at this age, at least my dd didn't but if you do want some I've seen lots at the thrift stores here for cheap. Don't forget a water bottle for him.

Our DD1 started soccer at 3 and they don't require shin gaurds or cleats until age 5-6. This spring will be her 4th "season" without either. Just a size 3 ball and uniform.

You can totally tell you've been doing this. It said on the list shin guards, white shirt and water bottle is all we have to provide. Sweet! How much do the cleats run at your thrift store and are they in pretty nice shape? I guess I need to start looking for some here.

Ooooh, i'll have to check that out. When is reg. soccer season? For this team they have October - December and January - March. They use a huge indoor gym area for them I think....

They do require shin guards for this team. Thankfully no major uniform yet.

Re: Soccer mama's - help!

My Sister got my Nephews Cleats and Shin Guards at a yardsale. He just turned 4 last week and this Spring will be his first season. For him cleats, shin guards, soccer socks, and black shorts are required. We haven't decided yet if we're gonna have him wear a "Cup" it's not required that he wears one but get a bunch of 4yr olds out there kicking the ball hmmmm their aim for the ball isn't always good.

Lightly used Cleats and Shin Guards should work pretty well. Can sometimes find them at Yard Sales or Goodwill.

It's OK, next time I'll make you listen. I wish that it were in the power of all children to say that to their parents and to know that indeed they would be heard as we were in those wonderful days on Waltons Mountain.Narrator The Waltons (From the Runaway in Season 3 Eposide 4.)

If its an indoor soccer league chances are you will not need cleats.

Try your local resale store around the time soccer season begins (in our area fall soccer is in Sept. and spring soccer is in Feb.). We have often found good deals on cleats there.

As for the shin guards...my son is still wearing his original pair from 3 seasons ago. They last a long time so I wouldn't skimp on the money there...buy a good pair because they will last. I always go for the ones that have the ankle protection.

My two cents is that they don't need expensive, although that is sometimes relative right? I got my dd's from Target for about $13 or so. They lasted her for two and a half years. She's always had to have cleats, but we've got Adidas both times for $20 at Big 5.

You def need your camera though! Have fun.

Re: Soccer mama's - help!

We found socks that have built-in shinguards, we bought those for DS last year when he was 4. He has little chicken legs and these stayed up without sliding off. Plenty of protection given the caliber of the playing....(it was cute, though!)

Target or Walmart. I'm sure Kmart has them too.
