Are you using No Script? If so, you need to learn the codes to do those things... No script doesn't allow anything to load, including those features (which is why it helps so much with the virus issues).

Also, when I view a thread, the first post looks funny to me as well. The user that created the thread is over on the left, and their thread is really skinny down the rest of the page.
