Re: Ambien....whatcha think??

I took this during labor with my DD because I was in labor for 43 hours and not progressing. Seriously though, I think I wasn't progressing because I was too tense to let my body contract. Once I took the ambien and laid down, I went from 1-6 cm in 8 hours. I vaguely remember parts of this, I was OUT.

Anyway, if it can make me sleep through labor, I'm sure it can help you get some rest. Just, as the other PPs said, take it while in bed.

Re: Ambien....whatcha think??

Just looked it up on www.safefetus.com and it looks like it's a class C drug because there isn't any human data available. I would take it if you haven't been able to sleep any other way, lack of sleep can make a person crazy! I took it once when I wasn't pregnant and watched my dresser dance across the room so like the PP said just be prepared!

Re: Ambien....whatcha think??

I have taken it a few times. I took it right before my induction w/my last pregnancy. The nurse could tell that I was really anxious/nervous so she asked if I needed an Ambien to get some rest. I'm glad that I took it, I got about 6 hours of good, solid sleep that night that was MUCH needed for the next day. I've taken it a few times this pregnancy, but even 1/2 a pill is enough to help me get some rest.

I took it during the last month of my third pregnancy. I agree to go to bed soon after swallowing the pill. I honestly think it saved my sanity that last month. I was not sleeping at all and felt like I was literally going nuts.

Re: Ambien....whatcha think??

I've taken it through both of my pregnancies. I have a hard time sleeping when I am pregnant which makes my migraines worse and more frequent so I take ambien. If you are nervous about taking it then like a pp said you can try the regular old benadryl too.

I must be the only weirdo alive that it didn't work for. I got about 3 or 4 hours of sleep max. That said, I'd only take it when truly desperate (which I was lol) and not on a regular basis, since we aren't sure if it affects baby or not yet.

Re: Ambien....whatcha think??

ambien made me violently ill when I took it. I took 1/2 a pill and about 10 minutes later was throwing up so horribly I couldnt stand or walk. I was incredibly dizzy and just really out of it. I would NEVER take it again...but I know those side effects are rare and do know people (like my mom) who have taken it without side effects.

Ambien can really help when women are desperate and need sleep and have tried everything else. To the OP, have you tried hypnosis? I have had insomnia with several of my pregnancies, but the ones I've used hypnosis for I haven't had any trouble.

I don't have hypnosis for insomnia...I should look into it! Its not just a problem for me when I'm preggers. I'm a super light sleeper and always have trouble falling back asleep when I'm woken up.
