Can you tell me about Classical Conversations?

I have reviewed the website but am looking for "inside" information about this program i.e. the good, bad and anything else. I also would like cost information, which I could not find. We would be doing Foundations (grade k).

I haven't used it yet but have looked into it for a year now. I like the idea a lot, I think what has stopped me is that it seems like a lot of rote memorization.

Re: Can you tell me about Classical Conversations?

That is my EXACT concern too....I was actually trying to avoid rote forms of learning. I have heard so many good things from moms who have kids there though that I wanted to at least get more information. Thanks...off to check your link for prices.

Re: Can you tell me about Classical Conversations?

I just got my catalog yesterday and was trying to figure out if it was for us. I also love the look of Veritas press when DS gets older. I am so undecided right now it isn't funny

Re: Can you tell me about Classical Conversations?

CRAZY WIERD.

My husband and I just found out about this and he actually went to an information meeting tonight!!!!!!

We like it, but need to know a bit more about the Catholic aspect. We are Catholic and their statement of faith (which we wouldnt have to sign) does have some anti-Catholic rhetoric in it. Additionally, some of the Vertias Press cards have a quite anti-Catholic slant, but I figure if its 2% of EVERYTHING she learns, then we can teach her at home what we believe....etc.

I"m finding out now how this group operates. I have heard on the forums on the internet that it really depends on YOUR group. So, I have put that questions to the head of this group to see.

I like the idea of Latin, and memorization, and learning in that way, and its amazing really what they can learn, etc.

So - we are thinking about it. My husband just went tongith to an informational meeting so I guess if you have any questions I"ll try to answer them? haha!

I do have the Veritas Press phonics Museum and we love it! It has games, music, and art all combined.

K level? I heard that some of the primers were difficult and didn't make sense, is this true?

If your Catholic please look at Seton home school curriculum. I used it and really liked it. Plus if this is your first year you can feel out how your children learn. It takes you day 1, week 1 do this . . . sounds like right up your alley right now.

I didn't have a problem with the readers, but they were a bit difficult when we first started. I didn't have him read the whole thing in one sitting, we would take breaks and come back. I thought they made sense, but they worked really hard to make the sounds fit with the book and you could tell.
I think the concept is so good that you can overlook the books being a little dumb. Every reader I have read is the same in my opinion. The Cat sat on Mat type of thing.
It does go slow, but is very thourough.

Re: Can you tell me about Classical Conversations?

A good friend used CC with her children for several years until her DH lost his job; they couldn't afford it after that. She said they all loved it, and the kids learned a lot.
