Re: How far would you drive for a midwife?

I would drive ANY distance to see someone who could give you the birth you want

But I am considering going out of country to get the birth I want so I might be a little biased

Re: How far would you drive for a midwife?

i'd drive 30 min, 45 tops...but i also have a history of precipitous delivery so i really prefer a max 10 min drive to nearest capable hospital, which i have here and our insurance will cover in an emergency (aka:water breaks and i dont' feel safe making the 30 min drive to the hospital)

Re: How far would you drive for a midwife?

Here in Missouri, up until the 1st of the year, there was a single birth center in the state (it closed Jan. 1st). I've known of women from all over the state who drove anywhere from a few minutes to 3 hours or so in order to give birth there. So no, I don't think driving an hour or two for a MW is totally unreasonable.

Another birth center is opening only 35 minutes from our house...3 weeks after I'm due.

Re: How far would you drive for a midwife?

So sorry to hear of your previous experiences, I hope you are able to find a MW you are able to fit with, and get the treatment you deserve to have a great experience and respectful healing pregnancy/birth next time.

I would drive it. Before I moved closer into the city, with my last pregnancy I drove an hour one way to my MW and Hospital.

It was sooo worth it. I would definately consider driving 2hrs or more if it was something I really wanted, liked and was comfortable. Birth Centers, MW, ect.

Good Luck with your decision

I drive an hour to my OB, I don't trust any of the OB's in the town I live in

Re: How far would you drive for a midwife?

The MW I'm going to be seeing is currently 2 hours from where we live. We're in the process of moving though, and then she'll only be 30 mins away, but I think regardless, if I really like her and she gives me the birth I'm wanting I'd still drive the 2 hours.

Re: How far would you drive for a midwife?

I live an hour away from the city so I have to drive in to have any medical care. My DD#2 was born 20 minutes after my water broke, but thankfully we were in the city shopping or she would have been born at home or in the car.
