Calling all mamas who suffer from SPD!

Just curious if there are any mamas who have or are suffering from SPD and if there was any treatment that helped.

SPD- is a condition where you have pelvic pain and info about it can be found here.

Thanks,

Re: Calling all mamas who suffer from SPD!

I have had it horribly this time around. Had it pretty bad last time but didn't think it was bad enough to actually be SPD so I never considered it so. I was wrong. I've tried special supports that put pressure on the illiac crests to try and release it a bit but those don't help. I saw a chiro for a while (until we couldn't afford it anymore) and don't think it made much difference- my good days were better, but my bad days were just as bad as ever. The thing that's given me the biggest relief? Since the baby has engaged in my pelvis, I haven't had nearly as much pain. I still get the stinging ache when I lift up one leg (like to put my pants on) or when I turn over in bed, but I don't feel it pop and grind anymore when I just move around, and it doesn't bring me to tears anymore.

Re: Calling all mamas who suffer from SPD!

I can't tell if I have that or not bc it comes and goes. Sometimes it's so bad, I crawl up the stairs to bed and can't turn over in bed w/o sobbing....this past week (20 wks pg) I have felt pretty good, so I can't say! <but I have had round ligament pain for MONTHS and other pains almost the whole pregnancy>

I've got it. I don't know what to do for it except sit with a heating pad between my legs. It is SO horribly painful some days, but not as bad on others. I found that stretching it out actually helps (if you can get past the first minute of pain).

Re: Calling all mamas who suffer from SPD!

My goodness I feel relieved to not be the only one. I think sometimes my husband probally thinks I'm a whiner although he would never say that. But when I roll over in bed I'm in shear agony. Like bring tears to my eyes pain. Daytime is not AS bad but still painful. I feel worst at night after being up and chasing kids all day. I'm 31 weeks pregnant and can't wait to deliver to get some relief. All of my pain doesn't go away then, like I still have pain in my hip after giving birth. Just don't have all of this excruciating pelvic pain. Sorry for the rant!

Re: Calling all mamas who suffer from SPD!

Wow-I had just posted a few days ago about this over in my due date forum because I was ready to take any pill under the sun available, provided it was safe for the baby. Just one of those bad days with this when you seriously get tears springing to your eyes if you move just wrong. Thankfully that day was the worst so far, and I'm doing a bit better now.

Right now I am coping by taking it a whole lot "easier" than I want. I don't love not moving as much, but right now moving just gets to a point of unbearable. Walking hurts. Moving hurts. I have even contemplated posting on Freecycle for a walker or cane because I noticed when I went grocery shopping the other day (and I haven't been in ages because of this crap), pushing on the cart actually made my mobility a little less restricted.

My biggest relief is a daily bath. I will rub sometimes in the inner parts of my legs ,but the other parts where it hurts, well I am not rubbing THOSE LOL!!

The name of the game for me right now is just get through it. I finally gave up on my sewing last night and packed up my half finished all in ones away. I won't need them until this little guy is 4ish months if he's anything like my last one, and maybe not until 5 months if he's smaller than she was, so I gave myself permission to pack them up and deal with them AFTER the he's born so I won't have to be in the pain of snapping/sewing them. I just can't push past it anymore.

So in the meantime there's a lot of sitting, knitting, watching DVDs of stupid shows, reading and schooling with the kiddos and other sit and wait activities.

I do want to try the heating pad thing though...as much as a hot bath helps I bet that would be amazing. My experience with a chiropractor was positive, but pointless. I loved the rolling pin bed thing, felt good, but honestly it didn't do much in the long run. Nothing a loving husband and some massage oil can't accomplish

to everyone experiencing this. It royally sucks!

well i have been put on mod. bed rest for it- i am only allowed to do things "as necessary" (HA! ) and cant go anywhere w/ the kids by myself (we live in an upstairs apartment- and going down the stairs is sheer agony) - When i can i use a walker- it helps alleviate some of the preassure/pain on my hips and i sit as much as possible- and i take meds - (all approved by my dr)

that being said i do have good days- those are just on my bad days

My sister had it with DD2. Physical therapy from a group that specialized in women health and pregnancy made a difference along with a support belt that they gave her and showed her how to properly apply. Early treatment will help prevent lasting injury.

Re: Calling all mamas who suffer from SPD!

SS so many mamas have this problem. I know how bad it hurts. I am going to some natural approach doctor who is supposed to be a specialist in dealing with this in pregnant women. I will update after my appointment. I sure hope she offers some help. At this point I believe I would swallow about any medication they deemed safe during pregnancy. Speaking of which what meds are you on starsmndmeofyou? I tried to research a safe one and wasn't able to find out a lot about it.

Thanks,
Kristy
