Question My Peds infant feeding schedule......

.........is just crazy!! I was in with Lilly on Friday (she's really sick) and I am being nosey and looking through allt he little papers they give you at different stages. Well, I missed my 4 month check up because we aren't vaxing and she was healthy. Apparently this is the sheet I would'v been given. It says:

4months
5-8 tbsp infant cereal (measured dry), mix with breastmilk/formula
1/2 jar fruits daily
1/2 jar veggies daily
4 ozs sterile water

5-6months
8 tbsp infant ceral (measured dry)
1 jar fruits daily
1 jar veggies daily
1 jar meat daily
4ozs water
4 ozs juice

Does this seem a little crazy to you or is this the norm?? As the months went on it got crazier and crazier.

That's crazy!!! A lot of the ones I found online were very similar. There's no WAY that DS could have eaten that much at that age... probably couldn't eat that much NOW.

This is a top doc!! It looks to be a download and photo copied thing, not certain if he actually recommeds following it or not. I did just start Lilly on solids (well, rice cereal) because she's not gaining any weight and while she eats all the time she still acts like she's starving and grabbing at my plate/staring at everyone eat. We'll see if it helps. She's only eatig like 2-3 tbs a day though.

Oh my goodness. I don't even know where to start. Thats a fast track to early weaning thats for sure, among other things.

Its amazing the misinformation that is out there.

My kiddo refused cereal until he was 6 months. Even then he didn't like it and preferred fruits and veggies. He wouldn't eat more than a 1/2 jar though. So in one day he had 1.5 jars of food. He just recently started really eating and he's almost a year old!

On the weight gain thing, cereal has way way less fat and calories than formula or breastmilk. If she is having weight gain issues cereal will not help and may actually hurt the issue. I would suggest adding Flaxseed oil to expressed breastmilk or formula. We did this for Sage and it really helped. If you want the solids then avocado would be best, lots of healthy fats.

Oh, your doc is way off. She is goign against the APA guidelines even.

I don't think I could've gotten my (second) son to eat that much at 10 months, much less 5 or 6.

Re: My Peds infant feeding schedule......

My cousins ped told her to start her son at TWO months...then at 4 months told her to go to table food. I argued and argued with her that she shouldn't.

I personally think it needs to be on a child by child basis. Some babies don't want anything until over 1 and some at 5 months. I definately don't think they need to be given a set amount of food.

Re: My Peds infant feeding schedule......

It's crazy and extremely outdated!

First of all, they don't recommend ANY solids now until at least 6 months of age. Secondly most Peds agree that rice cereal is not something you need to/should give. They suggest starting with bananas or avacado as a first food.

I can't believe all the stuff they have on there for 5-6 month olds!
