Using conditioner to soften wool

I know I've heard someone say they've done this. Can you tell me about it? (like how, what kind of conditioner, etc) I have some Peace fleece longies I'm almost done knitting and want to soften it up.

I thought the lanolin softens them up a bit.

you add the conditioner when you add in the wool wash but i dont know how much or what kind. i'm assuming the cheap kind work fine.....

the lanolin will help soften it but conditioner does it faster.
