a treat to take into my daughters 1st grade class for valentines day. The principal isnt allowing cupcakes/cookies because they have too much sugar. I can make muffins but I was hoping to find something more appealing to the kids. I'm out of ideas. This rule is rediculous because they are selling valentines candy grams at school and sell ice cream at every lunch. The treats should be a special treat for holidays and not an everday thing. One mom is bringing tangerines....

What about pepermint bark? Just melt almond bark & add crushed pepermints (our favorite are the soft kind). It's a thought

What about something from the book Deceptively Delicious? They have recipes for muffins, granola bars and other healthy goodies. All the recipes have veggies. I always make something from the book for my kid's snack days and their classes always like it. Or what about popcorn with cinnamon and sugar or a fruit salad?

If you don't have the book and would like a recipe then pm me. I'll be in and out later today, but can send you one. Here's one that's online, blueberry oatmeal bars.

How about chocolate dipped strawberries- A mom in my DD 1st grade class did that, put each one in a little baking cup, and the kids loved them- kept asking for more.
Our principal also said no cupcakes-

We have to do "Heart Healthy" snacks for DS's kindy class Valentine Party. So, I asked DS what he wanted to bring, and he chose his favourite food- grape tomatoes. LOL We are cutting cheese into heart shapes with a teeny cookie cutter and threading them onto toothpicks with the tomatoes.

We always do cheese and pretzels or fruit. It goes over really well with the kids and teachers.

We aren't allowed to send in any type of food at all for treats.

We sent pencils. sigh

no sugar for us either. I sent the hot air popcorn popper with the pink salt I made and a container of clarified butter with pink food coloring. I also send a few clean new paper grocery sacks to catch the popcorn in.

How about fruit and strawberry yogurt for dipping? Maybe you could arrange special one serving portions into pink cupcake wrapppers or something like that.
