I know how you feel though, I just put on my FB status everything I've done today and what I have left to do which includes washing a load of diapers and someone mentioned (as a joke) I didn't know you could wash huggies. It was funny because it came from a male friend of mine. There is only one person who said something negative about me using cloth on DD. She told me to enjoy my sh@##y diapers. I just took it with a grain of salt. To each their own I guess. I'm sorry you had to and still have to deal with that.

Re: Should I respond to this comment about cloth diapers?

I have no statistics on this at all but, it seems to be common sense that it would be better to wash something and reuse than throw it away. I mean look at all the stuff that gets thrown away in general: paper towels, paper plates, plastic cups, junk mail....and on and on . How could you really not see that reusing is better than throwing away?? And - cloth is super cute and fun!! he he.
But, I agree with what one of the other mamas said that if you're going to respond you should send something polite-ish and then PM and have the debate among yourselves because if more people get brought into it it will likely become even more irritating. Another - nonscientific thought that I'd had about sposies is that my dd is a super soaker and will leak through many cloth diapers within 2 or 3 hours so - what in the heck is in the sposies that can hold her leak free for 9+ hours overnight?? That just really freaks me out for some reason.

with the exception that I would say IF cloth/disposables are equal... (b/c I don't believe they are).

I would also ask my friends not to be so judgmental.

Unfortunately, none of the studies that have been done are incredibly good. The most recent was from Great Britain - I have the link somewhere if you want it. I still believe that using water and fossil fuel is better than using a produst that's made of virgin timber, and fossil fuel plus chemicalls and then gets tossed in a landfill full of untreated sewage... but yeah, its hard to debate it with someone who thinks otherwise!

I remember when I told people that we were going to use cloth (before dd was born) they actually started taking bets on how long it would be until we gave in and used sposies. I just don't understand people!

People are lazy, that's what I think How else is it that we live in a world of fast food, convenience groceries, and no time?

Re: Should I respond to this comment about cloth diapers?

Thanks for all the good info and links! I'm still trying to decide if I should respond.

I'll be honest...when we had DS, CDing wasn't even on my radar. It never even occurred to me. Then I became a member of JustMommies when I was pregnant with DD. I lurked on the CDing board there, but when I mentioned my interest in cloth to family/friends, they talked me out of it. Finally, when DD was 10 months old, I decided I didn't care who said what--I was going to try cloth. No one was talking me out of it. I got a lot of flack from family, my mom mostly. But once my diapers arrived and I showed my mom how they worked, she felt bad for telling me I was crazy. She even now helps me buy cloth and she makes all my liners and wipes.

I guess I just don't understand how anyone could know about cloth diapers and not want to try it out. Once I learned more about it from JustMommies and then here, I couldn't not try it. Especially given all the benefits--no yucky chemicals, saving $$, and not sending tons of garbage to a landfill to sit and rot for who knows how long. KWIM?

So while I can't say I've always used cloth, I can say I do now and will continue to do so because I now know better. Like I said in my OP, when you know better, you do better. So when someone says cloth is equal to sposies, I get really irked. That's why I'm thinking I need to respond, but I need to cool down and formulate a mature, informed response instead of going off on her and starting a debate.
