Re: Longies - Please Help
I've tried every cast on I know of or could find online. Really...all of them. Could I be casting on too tight? What cast on is the best one?

Re: Longies - Please Help
The waistband is going to typically be smaller in circumference than the hips but for a 2 year old it should still fit on a 16" circ. Try casting onto a needle bigger than your gauge needle and see if that is stretchy enough.

Re: Longies - Please Help
Not being an experienced knitter I'm not the best to answer this, but I did make a medium pair on a size 16" circ easily. How many stitches did you cast on? How far across the needle/cable do they go? I did I think 88 for the mediums and they went from tip to tip without stretching...I know Maggie calls for using a 24" circ for the body, but I cannot make that work because everything I'm knitting is smaller than that (even my larges), so there must be some way people do it, but it's not easy.
Anyway I use the long tail cast on and I cast on fairly tightly, but not so tight that my stitches can't move along the needle... It'll work out mama, just keep practicing! -Rach

Re: Longies - Please Help
i use long tail cast on. you should be able to make a 16" work for you. Maybe try casting on a little looser?

Re: Longies - Please Help
I use the long tail cast-on too. Can you show us a picture of why it's not working? Your stitches should slide easily, so if they're not you probably are casting on a bit too tight. Are you sure you have a 16" set? The 16" is measured from tip to tip not just the cable itself. Also, I didn't know this until I had been knitting for some time and I wish someone had told me but you can soften up your cable if yours seems inflexible or stuck in it's packing shape. You won't believe what a difference it makes. The first two rounds are the hardest, but it should be smooth sailing after that.

Re: Longies - Please Help
You mama's are really great!
I decided to search online yesterday for a local yarn store (and found one!), and this morning DD and I made a trip there hoping that they would have some advice for me. And boy did they. I went in and asked for 12" ones and noticed they were way way way smaller than MY 16" ones. Leading me to ask the lady for 16" needles - and I immediately realized my problem. Though the package that my needles came in were marked as 16" - they had a 16" CABLE and were definitely not 16" from tip to tip. So another $30 in needles later I might be able to figure this out. At this point I've spent so much on wrong needles, I probably could've just bought the interchangable ones to begin with. Thanks so much again, and I'll let you know how it goes.
