Re: No Serger Prefitteds - The Sequel: Stay Dry Stuffables

Thanks for this!! I made one out of a newborn orange edge GMD and lined it with some thin jogging fleece I had. I don't know how well it works though.... I don't know all the different types of fabric, and it didn't seem to absorb at all, the moisture just sat on top when I tested it with a stream of water. The fleece is "fleecy" on one side, and woven/knit on the other. Do you think this will work?

I also have remnants from some thin suede curtains my aunt hemmed for me. It is 100% polyester, would this work like microsuede?

I had been discussing "our" stash with my DH, and told him if I could do it all again, I'd rather use prefitteds than prefolds, since I like the cost and fabric of prefolds, but the ease of use of fitteds (just not the cost). I did a search just to see where I could find cheap prefitteds and all these wonderful sew-your-own prefitted links came up! Now I don't have to re-do the stash for baby #2!!

Fleece won't actually absorb moisture, which is why it is kind of like a stay dry liner (and why it makes great longies/shorties/soakers). The water will just sit on top, you actually need some kind of compression to push it through the fleece to the absorbent material. But this won't work well for kiddos who pee large amounts quickly, as it can escape through the legs before it gets absorbed. You could actually make the prefitteds like a regular fitted with flannel or velour or something and just do a lay in fleece liner if you find you need a stay dry layer for night time or diaper rash.

No idea on the suede though. I've used micro suede myself.

I am definitely going to make these. Thank you so much! I am going to try and use either a flat diaper or flour sack towel instead of the fleece though. I want to keep it all cotton.
