Help for a dry cough?

I've had a mild cold this week and today it's ended up in the form of a dry cough. The cough itself isn't too bad, but in one of my earlier pregnancies I pulled my round ligaments (the ones supporting the baby belly) and they've bothered me slightly more with each pregnancy. With my fourth baby by the third trimester I couldn't even lift my left leg to go up the stairs and had to crawl instead. Every time I cough I'm doubling over to help ease the strain on these darn ligaments. It really hurts!

Anyhow, I don't really know what to do for this cough. It's just a dry little tickle. I've been drinking a lot of water, just had a mug of mint tea with honey and these Thin Mints aren't helping Any hints? Home remedies?

Re: Help for a dry cough?

We use essential oils. In fact ds was just coughing and woke himself up so I rubbed rosemary on him. And the great thing is most of them are totally safe for pregnancy!

Would you just rub it on your chest then? I have a bunch of EO's, I wonder if I have rosemary . . .

Re: Help for a dry cough?

I agree with Eo's I wouldn't use it straight personally as it would irritate my skin.
A humidifier maybe?
Have you tried applying counter pressure to your liament area while you cough to help support them?
This helps me alot!

Re: Help for a dry cough?

Ive got a few things to try that work for me..for all coughs

use nasal saline spray...
Hot tea add lots of honey
I put a few drops of tea tree oil in my shower and let it steam up and breathe it in
sit in the steamy bathroom while shower is on for about 5 minutes then head outside into the cold.

start on some extra Vit C & D

Hope it gets better FAST

Re: Help for a dry cough?

I couldn't find my EO's as they're still in a box somewhere, but ended up taking a spoonful of straight honey and it did the trick! I actually did end up sleeping pretty well that night. My DH went solo with the kids this morning and I slept A LOT today. I got up at ten, ate some breakfast and laid down "for a minute". When I woke up at two this afternoon I was feeling a lot better. Still coughing a bit, but not nearly so badly. It's amazing what more sleep can do!

I'm sure people are thinking I'm trying not to wet my pants when I cough, but I found that if I bend over a tad it doesn't hurt my ligaments so much. Ah well, six pregnancies will do that to you!

Thank you SO much for all the help! I hope to find those EO's this week sometime . . .

Re: Help for a dry cough?

I get ligament pains when I am laying down and cough if I am not perfectly alligned. If I feel a cough coming on, I have to straighten both of my legs and lay flat on my back otherwise I get the ligament pains. It sucks... especially when one catches me off guard and I'm not prepared.
