Re: Tummy Sleeper with Angelcare Monitor?

![]() Loved, loved, loved my AngelCare monitor! That thing is the only reason I could sleep peacefully with DS in his own room. We kept it on until we converted his bed to a toddler bed for his 2nd birthday.

Re: Tummy Sleeper with Angelcare Monitor?
No AngelCare Monitor [ DD sleeps with us ], but has slept on her tummy &/or side since she was about 3 weeks old. I'm perfectly aware of SIDS, but on two occassions my daughter has nearly choked on her own spit up because she was flat on her back. I'm scared to think of what would have/could have happened had I not been right there.
Her head and muscle control is excellent and is more than capable of lifting her head and neck. For us, the risk of her choking on spit up again is much more likely to happen again as opposed to SIDS. I know that not everyone will agree and that's also fine, but this works for us, and I wouldn't allow her to roll to her stomach if I didn't believe she was able to lift and turn her head.

Re: Tummy Sleeper with Angelcare Monitor?
i've never used the angelcare monitor but my middle child was a preemie and came home on an apnea monitor and I have to say that it truly was wonderful. Yeah it was a ginormous PITA to carry around constantly but at night or when I put her in her basinette to shower, I KNEW she was breathing. And truly it was a very real threat that she would forget to breathe. It happened all the time. In the car she would forget, deep in sleep in teh middle of the night she would forget, etc. And there was only one time she needed help remembering to breathe. Usually the monitor woke her up. I don't know how loud the angelcare is but our monitor was a piercing shriek that sounded every second until she self-corrected or we silenced it and it was wake-the-neighbors loud. No joke. The first beep would wake you from REM sleep.
But it was wonderful peace of mind to let her sleep on her belly the way they placed her in the nicu and the way she was used to.

Re: Tummy Sleeper with Angelcare Monitor?
We coslept so we did not use a monitor until DS went into his own bed at 6 months.
He slept on his side from about 3 weeks and went to his tummy at about 2 months (when he learned to roll over). He actually liked to sleep face down (which scared the daylights out of me) so I would turn his head and would check periodically through the night to make sure he did not turn back to face down. I like sleeping on my tummy too so I assume he got it from me. I just let him do it. Putting him on his back just kept waking him up and he'd just roll over anyway. good luck!

Re: Tummy Sleeper with Angelcare Monitor?
There seems to be quite a trend with NICU babies, and tummy sleepers.
DD always slept on her back, no problems. The boys however, no way. It just doesn't happen. They won't sleep any other way. Not in a swing, not in a vibrating chair, nothing. It's either they're sleeping ON you, or on their tummies. It drives me nuts because I know it's not the safest thing for them. But, I do believe it's a NICU "habit". That's usually how they were positioned (and there was good developmental justification for it), and so that's just how they're comfortable.

Re: Tummy Sleeper with Angelcare Monitor?
I bought an Angel Care monitor specifically b/c we could not ever get DS to sleep on his back. I love it.

Re: Tummy Sleeper with Angelcare Monitor?
Babies love to sleep on their bellies! I was a nervous, typical first time mom, and would not let my DD sleep on her tummy, but with my DS, I bought the Babesafe mattress wrap, and was fully confident that he would not be breathing in the off-gases from the poisons that they use to manufacture mattresses. That is one of the HUGE reasons why babies suffer crib death. Not enough people know!

It was a PITA but I felt so much better having the apnea monitor.. I have no experience with the angelcare monitor though. But anyways, yes I did let DS sleep on his belly with the monitor. But he also had laryngotracheomalacia so it was much easier for him to breathe on his belly.

Re: Tummy Sleeper with Angelcare Monitor?
DS2 would only sleep on his tummy, so I used the Angelcare Monitor and felt fine with it.
