Thinking of donating
OK, so things are finally starting to calm down here and get into a schedule. And its only taken 6 1/2 months!
I was thinking of donating milk (I guess through milkshare), but I thought I'd ask you mamas on here who've given and received milk for advice. See, I'm on anti-convulsant medication, Tegretol XR (generic carbamazapine). Not a lot gets in the BM, but some does. The doc said its MUCH less than when DD was inutero though, and that there was no reason whatsoever not to BF, she'd had much more when she was in me. So here's my question....would a receiver of BM want my milk? What's your experience? I don't want to waste my time if there won't be anyone to take it. Thanks for your advice!

Re: Thinking of donating
IMO I'd take it if I were closer. I was on tegretol with my first babe and now on keppra for my second..so i'm cool with that kind of stuff lol (guess since I have a personal connection to the anticonvulsants). SOmeone else may not though, it just depends.

Re: Thinking of donating
I've donated before and often mamas will ask you what your diet is like, what meds your on etc to get an idea. Some mamas are much stricter than others about what they will allow in the BM they feed their babies than others (such as some only take milk from vegetarian/vegan mama donors etc). I suspect if you can deep freeze the milk (allowing it to be good for longer) you could post that you have an ongoing supply deep frozen and I think someone would probably take it before it went to waste. HTH

Re: Thinking of donating
OK, I'll def look into milkshare then. I've got a small stash from 2.5 months ago and don't want it to go bad (its in the deep freezer). I can def. pump more (espec when I eat oatmeal!!!) but wasn't sure it is was worth it. Thanks for the input!! I'm in western VA if anyone on here is interested!

Re: Thinking of donating
I've got a related question:
I've tried to sign up for Milkshare and even emailed them but for some reason I don't get any responses. Anyone have this same issue? I'd like to donate but if I can't register...hmm... |

Re: Thinking of donating
Yep, that's where I registered. I never receive the conformation password, even in my "junk" mailbox. This is also where I used the contact link to email them.
I'd really like to donate! |
