Re: ~Whole milk and Vit. question for 1 year old~
It is whole milk until 2 and then lesser percentage after that - like 1% or 2%. As long as they are balanced they shouldn't need a vitamin - unless you want to do extra "D". It seems like everyone is deficient these days - at least in Oregon.
![]() I do give my nephews and my son a gummy vitamin, but that is more because I'm taking prenatals and they wanted to take something too. So we all take them together at breakfast.

Re: ~Whole milk and Vit. question for 1 year old~
My son started whole milk after 1 year. We make him a smoothie with fruit and vitamins everyday and we also give him acidophilus daily. We will switch to milk with a lower fat content after 2.

Re: ~Whole milk and Vit. question for 1 year old~
The rec used to be to start whole milk at 1yr of age (for formula fed babies, no need to do any changes if BFing) but now a lot of them are now saying to stay on formula until 18 months of age.
It's really up to you. If you are scrimping to pay for formula, and you feel comfortable switching, go ahead (but start vites as well). However, if you don't mind paying for formula, and you'd like to follow the more recent rec's, keep doing the formula and re-evaluate later. For vitamins, start them when you switch to cows milk, OR when your baby starts drinking less than 30oz of formula a day. Formula only provides 100% of daily value if they are drinking the full 30oz. (for instance, if he's only drinking 15oz a day, he's only getting half the daily nutrients he needs, especially vitamin D when there are only a handful of other food sources for that) |

Re: ~Whole milk and Vit. question for 1 year old~
I have no plans to ever give DS milk. Both of my girls have problems with dairy: DD1 is lactose intolerant and DD2 has an allergy to casein, so we don't have dairy in the house.

Re: ~Whole milk and Vit. question for 1 year old~
I kept my kids on formula until at least age 2.. milk has way less nutrients. Their Dr was glad I was willing to continue the formula. I know none of my kids were great eaters at 12 months.
IMHO the one year for switcing to whole milk reccomendation is like the 20 lbs and 1 yr for switching to forward facing.. its the absolute bare minimum and much better to continue longer.

Re: ~Whole milk and Vit. question for 1 year old~
we switched to whole at 1 with both of my kids... no issues... i still have my 3 year old on whole milk because he's super skinny (just like daddy) but he eats well so I don't worry
