Re: How many words does YOUR 13 month old say?

I have a friend with a 16mo DS, he has no words but communicates well with pointing and grunts.

I think it's pretty normal to be late speakers for boys.

Re: How many words does YOUR 13 month old say?

Liam doesn't really say anything that anyone else would understand. Occasionally he'll say ball, dog, and ewwwwwww (after someone else does). He says dada all the time, but that's the only real word right now.

He does know most of his animal sounds (duck, dog, cow, sheep, snake, monkey, lion and cat) and can make the noise if asked...but he has NEVER said mama!

Jonah is almost 15 mos and says dada and ahhhahh (his comfort object - a monkey since we told him that monkeys say ooo, ooo, ah-ah).

Re: How many words does YOUR 13 month old say?

that sounds normal to me. Boys esp can have later language development. My youngest is almost 16 mo and only has a very few words, he's starting just now to find more but I'm not too worried about it. My middle son talked early and lots and my oldest didn't start really talking until just past 2. He babbled but mostly nonsensical stuff.

Re: How many words does YOUR 13 month old say?

butting in here, but why are boys usually later talkers than girls?
Youngest ds is almost 15 months, and he doesn't regularly say much. He can say several words, but chooses not to talk other than babbling. The only word he uses often is "more", but I've been a little concerned that he doesn't say other stuff on his own without being prompted. Anyway, just curious about the difference in boys and girls.

Re: How many words does YOUR 13 month old say?

K will turn a year old on March 15th so we're a little younger than you asked but she regularly says Hunter, mama, dada, papa, nan, nummie-num, i-love-you. She has said more (she prefers to sign it), and a few other things.

Re: How many words does YOUR 13 month old say?

My DS turned 1 year old on February 11, and he says:
- mama (1st word, I was SO excited!)
- mommy
- dada / daddy
- uh-oh
- doggie
- wo-ah (for Noah)
- hi
- boppa (grandpa)
- nana (grandma)
- miya ("mira" -- "look" in Spanish)

His linguistic development so far seems very similar to his older brother's. In most other ways, comparing my 2 sons in infancy is like comparing night and day. They are SO different.
