Transition to 2 naps.. remind me of age?

Can't recall when my other kids went to 2 naps a day but my 5.5 month old is already fighting her naps. Little girl is like my first son and has mounds of happy energy. She does sleep from 10-11 hours at night

When did yours go to 2 naps a day?

I don't remember with dd, but ds switched over to 2 naps at around 6 months. At 12 months he usually will still take 2 naps! DD went to 3.5 hour long nap at 11 months.

Re: Transition to 2 naps.. remind me of age?

It sounds a little early to me but she may end up sleeping longer with two longer naps versus three shorter ones. My older went from three straight to one at about 10 months and the younger is 7.5 months and still on three shorter naps. I think she is about ready for two though.

I thought it might be early but wasn't sure. Girly has only taken 2 naps totaling 2 hours 45 min. and been up since 6:30am!
Swear I don't know where she gets all this energy but it's wearing me out. LOL

Begin shortening the 3rd nap around 6 months and drop it entirely around 8 months.

Re: Transition to 2 naps.. remind me of age?

I don't remember any of my 3 taking 3 naps on a regular basis. I had one that was taking only 1 nap by the time she was 6 months. I don't remember exactly when. My son took 2 naps for at least a year, but he also napped every day without complaint until he was a little over 5 yrs old. My youngest went to one nap around 7-8 months, I think.

my dd was down to 2 naps shortly after 6 months and then just 1 nap shortly after 12 months but she's a great night sleeper so i don't fight it when she naps too much, it affects her nighttime sleep.

Do what works!!! My LO is very busy (was & still is) and I found a nap in the morning 9-11 then play, lunch and back to nap 2-4 She did this until 13 mos when she started Child Care and was kinda forced to 1 a day.

Re: Transition to 2 naps.. remind me of age?

Every child is different, but all 3 of mine took 3 naps until at least 8 months. I think 5.5mo is a little early, but maybe not.

Could it be her becoming more aware and learning new skills and just going on nap strike due to not wanting to miss anything? Mine have all done that. If I gave up on naps because of it, they would have missed out on a lot of sleep. And, my kids can't miss sleep.

I'd probably stick with it for a week or so and see if she goes back to it.

Again though, all kids are different. My kids are like me and all need a lot of sleep to avoid being grumpy.
