Creamy Crockpot Chicken

1 lb. chicken pieces, cut up $1.69
3 Tbs. butter $?
1 pkg italian dressing mix $.50
1 can Cream of Chicken soup $.75
8 oz. brick of cream cheese, cut in chunks at room temp $1.35
rice or noodles

Place butter and chicken in crock pot and pour dressing mix on top. Cook on low for 2-3 hours until chicken is done. Stir in soup and cream cheese and continue to cook until cream cheese is melted. Serve over rice or noodles. It's one of my favorite meals!

Do make the italian dressing or is just the dry mix?

I did a twist on this tonight and it was super yummy. DH and DS had 3 helpings
I used Whole Grain Roasted Garlic Italiano Rice A Roni with canned diced toms and corn and ground beef. It was sooooo good.

Don't know if it's on here already...

Cottage Pie:

1 lb ground beef, chuck, sirloin, turkey (whatever's on sale)
1 onion
~brown together in pan. Don't drain.
~Mix in a few dashes:
Worchestershire sauce
~or
A1 sauce
~or
HP Sauce (for those who can get it... I'm SO jealous of you!)
~pour into 8x8 inch pan or casserole
~pour on top
1 pkg frozen corn or green beans
~Top with
Mashed potatoes

Bake in 350 oven for about 1/2 hour, until the peaks of the potatoes start to brown. ^_^

Re: ~$5 Meal Ideas~

Here's a really simple (and cheap!) meal from western china, we eat a lot of rice with dishes, so here are 2 dishes that go well together and cost way less than $5:

serves 4

make rice in your rice cooker

heat about 1/4 cup of oil in your skillet
scramble 4 eggs (no milk!)
when oil is really hot pour in the eggs- they'll really fluff up fast, mix around
when eggs are cooked through put them aside and drop in 2 sliced tomatoes
cook tomatoes about a minute then put the eggs back in the skillet
add some salt and mix around (add a little msg if you're feeling extra authentic!)
place on table

chop up a cucumber or 2
dice a clove of garlic or 2
mix together & add a little salt and a tiny amount of cooking oil
place on table

just eat your dishes with plain white rice

Re: ~$5 Meal Ideas~

I haven't been able to add anything but I did find this blog from another forum I am on. It's called $5 dinners! Perfect for this thread. Here is the web site:
http://www.5dollardinners.com

Hope this helps some of you. I noticed that it all the dinners didn't involve alot of canned soup mixes so that was nice!

Re: ~$5 Meal Ideas~

So many good meals. I'm going to have to take the time to go through it all and copy and paste the ones that I really like.

Here's one that I make a lot in winter:

Bean Soup

Bag of three bean soup ( I think it's about $1.50)
One onion
Ham ( I buy the ham that is just a slice of ham for about $2)

Let the beans soak over night. When ready cut up onions and ham and put in crockpot. My husband and son love this. It's very filling, healthy, and warms you up on a cold winter night.

Re: ~$5 Meal Ideas~

http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Rice-Mess/Detail.aspx Also known as Lubio Polo (its persian)

INGREDIENTS (Nutrition)

* 2 cups water
* 1 cup uncooked rice
* 1 tablespoon butter
* 1 small onion, chopped
* 1 clove garlic, minced
* 1 pound ground beef
* 1 (8 ounce) can sliced mushrooms, drained
* salt and ground black pepper to taste
* 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
* 4 slices Cheddar cheese

NOTES (from me) Before you begin. I copied and pasted this from AllRecipes.com and thought I'd add some tips. My step-dad makes his with canned french style green beans and no mushrooms and no cheese and its delicious! ALSO, read the comments on this recipe bc some pple had to tweak it. But overall, its fairly cheap and if you dont have fresh garlic, use garlic powder.

DIRECTIONS

1. In a saucepan bring water to a boil. Add rice and stir. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 20 minutes.
2. Heat butter in a skillet over medium heat. Saute onion and garlic until tender. Remove from skillet, and set aside. In the same pan, brown the ground beef until no pink shows; drain excess fat. Return the onion mixture to pan, and stir in mushrooms (or whatever veggie your using. canned corn or green beans work good too). Season with salt and pepper. Stir in cooked rice and tomato sauce. Top with sliced cheese, and allow to stand until cheese is melted.

From hillbilly housewife <would make a good side item or even dinner>

Buttery Peas & Rice:
Prepare rice in the normal way using 1 cup of dry rice and 2 cups of water. Add 1/2-teaspoon salt, 2 tablespoons of margarine and 1 cup of frozen peas right before you put the lid on and simmer for 20 minutes.
