Re: ~$5 Meal Ideas~

I made this last night and DH and the kids loved it!! A new twist on a homemade pizza

1 can pizza dough
1 can speghetti sauce (you will only use enough to cover pizza crust so you can use the leftover for speghetti!)
1 bag shred cheese (or do your own shred cheese)
1 bag pepperoni slices

Spread out pizza dough, cover with speghetti sauce, top with 1/2 cheese, top with pepperoni top the rest of cheese. Roll pizza into a log and bake for 20 to 25 mins. Go a little longer then can says so you cook the dough in the middle.

I added olives, mushrooms to ours but you can add anything and change it up with cooked chicken, spinach and ranch (we have done that YUMMY!!) I brush a little light olive oil on the top to keep it not so burnt.

Re: ~$5 Meal Ideas~

This polish dish is super cheap, makes 12-18 servings.

stock pot with 2 litres boiling water.

add 1 chopped cabbage, 6-8 cubed potatoes, a stick of pepperoni cubed small, 2 diced onions and salt to taste.

total batch is like $8 for 18 servings

Re: ~$5 Meal Ideas~

Another one is tuna noodle casserole
1 (8 ounce) package wide egg noodles
3 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons flour
1 teaspoon salt (optional)
1 cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
1 (6 ounce) can tuna, drained
1 (15 ounce) can peas, drained or a handful or 2 of frozen

bake at 350 for 30 minutes

boil in salt water and drain noodles
in saucepan, combine flour, butter, and salt. Stir until butter is melted and ingredients are combined evenly. Add milk, and whisk until the sauce thickens (usually it is at the proper consistency by the time it begins to boil). Add cheese to mixture, and whisk until cheese is melted and mixture is well blended. Stir in tuna, peas, and noodles. Spread evenly in prepared dish.

Bake in preheated oven for 30 minutes.

Wow, tons of great ideas!!! Though I can clearly see that food costs a lot more where I live than most of what's been mentioned!

Re: ~$5 Meal Ideas~

Ok...when I am out of meat or anything specific and I dont want to go to the store I look in my cabinets and play Chopped! From Food Network...I say what can I do with what I have and start grabbing...last nights dinner (which mind you was a big hit)

3 cups rice (in rice cooker)
Season rice before turning on cooker with :
Gharam Marsala
Cumin
Cardamom

To an empty pot:

1 can Black beans
1 can chick peas
2 cans coconut milk
gharam marsala
3 chunks freshly cut ginger

bring to a boil and let simmer and reduce while the rice is cooking...when almost done add just enough sugar to make semi sweet (about 2 - 3 tablespoons)

Stir about half of the bean mixture into the rice (enough to make it thick) add it all if you want...I did about half and then spooned more ontop of the rice

its kinda like curry...but not spicey...and not too sweet...it was just enough spice to be interesting for my boys and sweet enough for them to go bananas over, but not too sweet for DH and I to enjoy

Enjoy!

1 can diced tomatoes w/green chillies
1-2 cloves garlic
3 cups dry penne pasta cooked
1 tsp cajun seasoning

chop garlic, dice onion and bell peppers, chunk up keilbassa, (I do it in rounds cut in 1/4's)

Add a bit of oil to a deep sided skillet and heat over medium high, add garlic, onions, and bell pepper sautee 4-5 minutes. Add cajun seasoning and Keilbassa saute 1-2 more minutes. Add in tomatoes and black beans bring to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes. Mix with cooked pasta and serve, top with shredded cheese if desired
That sounds SO good! I'll bet you could top rice or quinoa with this too if you aren't into pasta.

Re: ~$5 Meal Ideas~

I this thread.. it makes me wanna cook up a storm!!
So, I have tons of favorite meals, but the easiest one by far is a crock-pot chicken or pork chops with gravy. You can do this in the crock pot or in the oven. i usually do the oven because I forget to put it together in the morning

You'll need
4 pieces (or however many fit into a glass baking dish) of chicken or pork chops
1 onion
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 can chicken broth
4 tbsp soy sauce
4 tbsp worchestershire sauce
1 tsp garlic
1 tsp salt
(sometimes I use more or less depends - either way this is my favorite mushroom gravy!)
oven at 350 or crock pot on low-med for 8hours
Put the chicken in the baking dish. Cut the onion up into rings and lay them all over the chicken. Mix together the rest of the ingredients and then pour on top of chicken and onions. If you are using the crock pot, just pile it all together and cook for 5-8hours until nice and tender. If you bake it like I do, 1 hour on 350.
This is soooooo yummy and delicious and so easy to make. It takes like 5 minutes to put together!
