I've discovered a new way to put yourself into labor...Birth story added

...plant the garden with the kids.
I thought the contractions were from the constant up and down of planting the seeds. Um, no. Baby arrived 2 hours later, before the midwife even arrived! 8O
Mom and baby are fine. I'll type up a full birth story later - off to rest now.

Finally got the birth story typed up:
I was planting the garden with the kids. I noticed contractions, but getting up and down often causes contractions for me, so I did not think anything of it. After a while, I started wondering though, since they were pretty hard. I glanced at my watch and noticed they were coming 5 minutes apart. As soon as we were done planting, I came inside and laid down to see if a change in activity changed anything. DH made dinner for himself and the kids. I was not feeling like tacos at all. After dinner, we were supposed to go for a photo appointment at 6:40 – pregnancy photos for me and Easter photos for the kids. At about 5:45, I was still planning on going, but DH looked at me and said – cancel the appointment. I called the midwife at 6. I had just talked with her that afternoon about scheduling the next appointment, so she was surprised to hear from me. She said she’d check in with me in about hour and see what was happening. She didn't really think anything would be happening very quickly. I called the friend who was babysitting and packed the bags for the kids. DH got the tub ready at my request and I got in. I told him to call the midwife and tell her to come. This was about 6:30. My friend came and got the kids. They were very excited about spending the night at her house. About 10 minutes to 7:00, I started feeling “pushy” during contractions, but I dismissed it, thinking it must just be a reaction to the strong contractions. It was way too early to be pushing, I thought. A couple contractions later, I was really pushing, and I felt the baby’s head crowning. Brian was setting up the bed for the birth, and I called to him, “DH, baby’s coming!” He rushed into the bathroom and called the midwife. She had him get the birth kit and get the suction bulb out in case it was needed. He got that and then saw that the baby's head was out. He put down the phone and caught the baby. He came out in his bag of waters, and the bag broke as he lifted him out of the water. Baby gave a couple cries, but then was very mellow and just lay on my tummy in the water. Within a few minutes of birth, he got his thumb in his mouth and started sucking. The midwife got there about 45 minutes after the birth and checked out him and me. Everything was good. Baby was so mellow the whole night. He did not cry when the midwife weighed and measured him or took his footprints. He has a full head of dark brown hair. Our other kids were practically bald for the first whole year.
Baby's birth time was 7:03PM. Contractions started about 5:00, so only 2 hours of labor and contractions stayed about 5 minutes apart the whole time.

Re: I've discovered a new way to put yourself into labor...

Congrats! We were cleaning up the yard big time this weekend and it was causing lots of braxton hicks but no labor here. I'm only 36 weeks though. Glad to hear you and baby are doing well
