Which type of trash can is best?

For what it's worth, once my stash is built up (almost there!), I plan on doing diaper laundry every other day, never more.

I just ordered two pail liners to line the trash can with.

Which is best and less prone to stinking? One w/ a swinging lid or one with a step lid?

I bought a Hefty brand 13 gallon trash can from Walmart. It has the foot pedal you step on and the lid pops open, cost about $13. Love it!

We have the swinging lid, and don't have any major stink issues. I got what was cheap!

We have one from Target that is sideways (fits in the small space between the dryer and the wall for us) and has a latching lid. You push a button on the top and the lid pops open. LOVE IT!! Stinkies stay pretty contained! I think it was in the $12 range.

We got the step on lever one and it works well, stink stays contained, but it can be stinky when you open it up. Probably just means we need to wash though!

Re: Which type of trash can is best?

I've always used a lidless trash can (the cheapest Sterilite one at Target) with a PUL pail liner and have never had a problem with odor. I've never even had to do anything to the pail -- I stick my head in it after the diapers are out to see if it smells, and the pail liner has protected it so far. I also do diaper laundry every other day, never more often (but never less). I found that when I used a hanging wetbag with a drawstring that stayed more or less closed, the odor got much stronger than it does without a lid. I do use flushable liners to get rid of most of the poop before the diapers go in the pail.

I have a 13 gal trash can w/ a swing-top lid. Bought it from Target for $8-ish or so, I think.

I had read a long, long, long time ago that diapers need to have air to them to prevent stinkiness, so I've always kept wetbags unzipped (when we used a hanging pail in our old apartment when DD was an infant) or used the swing-top lid.

We use a safety first push top and like it. But have to say to help with scents nothing works better then a charcoal filter, I buy something like this in the pet store or Target http://www.petsmart.com/product/inde...55043&lmdn=Cat I cut them to fit in the top, or just put them under the bag, they are fantasticand cheap!!!
