Is it normal for a baby to sleep A LOT after vaccinations?

No flames please, we are a vaxing family, although yesterday I did decline the Hep B as I felt like with her 2 month shots she was already getting MORE than enough in her body in one go. As it was, i already don't like the fact that so many of the vaxes are combined (Pentacel, Dtap etc) and you can't just opt for them separately... but anyway. That's another discussion altogether.

After her vaxes she cried, but settled down pretty quickly. She also cried more than normal last night for a little while, but nothing severe, i think it was when i touched her leg to check if there was any swelling. She has no real visible reaction (maybe slight pain at the injection site which is normal) no fever and has been smiling etc while she's been awake today. However she slept basically all afternoon yesterday, woke up briefly to eat at 8pm, then ate again at 10pm, then i woke her to change her and feed her at 12 before we went to bed, and then she slept until about 7:30, then had a feed and slept again until about 11:30! She was awake for a little while this morning but mostly has just slept all day, when she's woken up i've tried to play with her a bit but she's gone back to sleep pretty quickly each time. She is a good sleeper, but this seems a little excessive to me! Is it normal to sleep this much after vaccinations? I don't remember my older daughter doing this!

My boys each got a shot on Thursday, they are 4 and 5, and they slept 12 hours that night. Its hard on their bodies. I've always gotten shots one at a time to try to help their little bodies.

Think of it this way - The vaccination does contain the virus for a particular illness, and the body has to do some healing. IMO it is normal for them to be more tired after shots.

My kids always were tired and feverish after shots, too. I hate it

My DD has always slept well after shots and once even developed a low-grade fever. Their bodies are learning to recognize the illness and developing new immunities after vaccines.

Yes. We're non-vaxing, but I know that children who run fevers and sleep more are thought to be receiving more immunity than those who don't have any side effects. Their body is not only fighting the virus, but the additives and whatever else is in the shots, so an immune response SHOULD happen.

We don't vaccinate, we kept our sons intact, we use cloth diapers, we co-sleep, we extended RF, we breastfeed, but we watch too much tv and I totally dig plastic! Everyone has their issues, lol.

Yeah my son always seems to take a longer nap than usual after his shot (s.) He never gets more than 2 at a time.

Re: Is it normal for a baby to sleep A LOT after vaccinations?

Yup. DD always sleeps a lot after her shots. Their body is 'fighting' the virus and building their immunity to it. That's a little more activity than normal for their little bodies
