Re: Has your circ'd son had any complications, major or minor?

DFS's circ was done too loose on one side, and he now has adhesions. He will most likely have to have a corrective surgery. We are seeing a urologist in a few weeks. The ped gave him a year to get them cleared up on their own, and to let it grow out to see if it would eventually correct itself, and it is definitely mis-shapen and pulling him to one side. Since he is a DCS case, we have to do what the ped says, and she wants it corrected now before he is old enough to remember the surgery.

My son is almost 20 months old and we're still dealing with his adhesions. I can pull it back and put unpetroleum on it with every change (which he thouroughly protests and cries... sometimes it bleed if i pull back to hard), and every time we see the doc he says just to keep at it... its been over a year. i consider adhesions at least a minor complication.

My son will need corrective surgery in the near future. I keep putting it off in hopes he will grow out of it, but he is 4 now and every time I try to retract where it adhered, he cringes and cries out in pain

Both of my boys had great circs, and have had no complications whatsoever.

I have 3 boys- the oldest is the only circd one and YES he had minor complications until he was out of diapers. And honestly, he may face issues as an adult and I will never know.

My two intact boys have had no issues at all.

Re: Has your circ'd son had any complications, major or minor?

I voted other. As far as I know my oldest (who is circ'd) has no complications. We won't know for certain until he is at least through puberty or an adult as some complications don't show until then. He did get diaper rash on his glans several times which wouldn't have happened if he had been intact. Dh is circ'd and has minor complications (uneven and a bad scar). My nephew has the worst I've personally seen. He has a severely buried penis. Even now he cannot pee standing up because not enough is exposed. His mother was constantly breaking the adhesions when he was an infant so he could even pass urine. The Dr's have told his parents they need to wait till puberty and see what happens but he may still need reconstructive surgery to correct the problems.

A few docs recommended I get him re-circ'd when he turned one, but when I pressed them as to the reasons why, they admitted it would only be cosmetic. I let them know that I wasn't going to expose my child to the risks of general anesthesia for a purely elective, cosmetic procedure. DH wasn't happy with my decision not to have it redone, but he was in Iraq, so he didn't get a say. DS will be 5 next month and it has never been an issue since.
That isn't technically a complication. It is actually better for your son in the long run. More and more doctors are doing very loose circumcisions because the more typical "tight circ" can lead to complications and pain in puberty and adulthood. There is just no way to tell how much a child will grown when they are an infant, and if there isn't enough skin to grow into it leads to tight or painfully curved erections and even tearing of the shaft when erect. All that to say that there is a trend towards these looser circs by many Dr's today. So this isn't so much a complication as a difference in practice.

My oldest is circed and had no problems, my two younger sons are intact and had no problems. I have, ahem, known some penises personally that were badly damaged by circs, but not my sons'.
