Could I do this with just a regular soup type pan?? I dont have salad tongs to put on my bowl but I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE kettle corn and love getting it fresh around here in the summer.
the microwave kettle corn is AWFUL.. blech |

According to Alton Brown, the salad bowl works better than a soup pot because the area that is directly on the heat is smaller, which allows the popped kernels to move up and off the heat once they have popped, preventing scorching.
You could do it in a regular pan, but you'd probably have some scorching on the kernels that stay at the bottom of the pan. Could be a bear to clean up. Make sure it's a really big pan, too. But the ones that make it up to the top would still be super yummy! How about channel lock pliers, vise grips or a clamp? You could do it with them too, as long as you had something good to protect your hand, since you'd be closer to the pot... |
