"maternity" style pants for preschoolers?

DD1, just barely 4, has a shape something like a slender pregnant woman: no hips, minimal bottom, bulging stomach. She is also tall for her age. Jeans that are tight-waisted, or elastic waists, get pushed down (either by her hands or by her stomach) to below her stomach. At that point, the crotch is usually halfway down her thighs, and her crack is showing. I feel like she needs low-front, high-back pants. Can anyone suggest a brand and/or style? (So much for all those gorgeous hand-me-downs. )

My daughter adored pants like that, they are made just like maternity pants. band and all. I can't remember any particular brands but they make them like that in cotton knit and cotton velour.

DD loves the cotton velours -- like leggings -- but we've got to find that high-back, low-front.... That's the kicker....

Overalls.

Honestly, I don't know. My kids have always been tall and skinny and I've always thought it odd that my kids didn't have the typical young kid body, which it sounds like your DD has. I would try yoga pants, but don't know if that would solve your problem or not.

You could always do cotton leggings or shorts. My DD is shaped this way and we roll the waistband down a little more in the front than the back. She is 5, and for now seems to work. And Tommy Jeans shorts.

K-mart has a decent brand of yoga pants with a wide waist cuff. DD1 has a similar shape (though she had a butt to help hold). Her hips and just below her belly are TINY, but then she has a buddah belly...LOL! We have a pair of these in every size (we bought them for potty training b/c of how cheap they were, and they are now the best pants she owns!). We don't do jeans, haven't since she's outgrown 3T's. We'll look agian this fall for brands that fit better!

rolling the waistband -- that's a total "why didn't I think of that?"! She wears the leggings more than anything else, but somehow it didn't dawn on me that the waistband could be rolled instead of pulled high on the belly or pushed below it. And thanks for the Tommy Jeans specific.

Overalls are another good idea. Thanks, Tallanvor!

And Lilymomma, I'll check K-mart for yoga pants -- thank you!

You have to wonder -- if this is the typical preschooler shape, why aren't pants made to fit it better?

i suggest the gaucho style pants, ive seen them in the little girls section several times at JC penny and i know ive seen them at walmart before also, so im sure they sell them at most places. most of the gauchos have a sort of roll down waste, so it would help because you could pull them up higher where they need to be. plus, i think theyre really cute! i love them and have a few pairs for myself
